Smile Weird Ideas

Has any one out there ever rigged up a cable release for the rear hatch? My '83 doesn't have the motorized unit, and as cool as it is, I really don't want to add one. Just a cable release that could be positioned near the driver's door with a **** would be a great thing. Esp if the key breaks off in the rear hatch lock cylinder. Just wondering....Thanks.

It's a great idea. I *think* the 924's are cable are they not? I've heard of people using hood pins for the hood & re-using the hood release lever for the hatch. Slick.

I think it's a great idea, it's annoying to shut off the engine just because you need that key to open your hatch.

Sounds like it might be time to get another hood release cable assembly and lever. I don't know about the 924 arrangement...so if any 924er's on this site want to chime in all suggestions are OK. I would appreciate any tips on the install...Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

The 968 cabs had a cable release for the trunk lid hidden in the door sill... Maybe that could be adapted.

You can use bicycle cable housing & ends, they are compatible with the 944 hood release leaver. That's what I am using after I destroyed my oem housing when I thought I'd go to hood pins... high end xtr cable housing. Silky smooth.

Apparently the 968 Club Sports use a similar cable approach to open the hatch. Recently discussed in vague terms on the 968 board fairly recently.
