How does the oil cooler come out of the car
Hi everyone,
My '88s oil cooler seal went bad at last week's AutoX. No problem, just part of owning a 44.
Researched on the web and looked at past posts here on the board without finding an answer to my question. My question is--how exactly should the housing/cooler come out? From the bottom or top?
Took everything apart today. Removed the power steering pump, heat shield, oil filter, pressure relief valve and cooler housing/cooler. I did not remove the exhaust manifolds or take the engine mounts loose (to jack the engine up).
Now I am not able to get the housing/cooler out.
What else do I have to 'get out of the way' to get the housing/cooler off and out?
Any advice is welcome.

Did you take your front undertray/diffuser off? this is where the cooler comes out. You can unbolt the air duct for it first and remove it, then pull the cooler out the bottom. It also helps to drop the front sway bar to have a little more space to undo the fittings on the oil console. No need to remove the filter, oil pressure relief valve or pressure sender. Unless you are talking about removing the oil console, not the cooler itself?

The cooler should slip out the bottom but it's tricky because the space is so tight.
Try putting your jack pad on the far passenger side of the oil pan and lift the engine so as to tilt it over a bit, this might give more space

One would assume you are speaking of the exhanger attached to the block?
Mine came out by lowering the front sway bar and unclipping the power steering line from the chassis rail. It is a puzzle but doable even with the oil pressure sender still attached.

Thanks everyone. Got it out by undoing the sway bar and power steering line and Turing it around. Gotta love these cars!!!! Thanks for the help!
