Hmm, we ship to Australia all the time so not sure why it won't show options...I'll look into that. Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box is $26.50. Not sure our software is smart enough to know that item fits in a small flat rate box but if it doesn't we'll change the shipping charge prior to charging your card.

Quick question for those of you that have done the timing advance- Does that have any notable impact on fuel economy or emissions (aside from the usual 'more power where I want it means I put my foot down more' problem, of course), or is it just changing where peak power/torque sit on the curve?

I'm going to be doing the belts/waterpump job later this year, and since I'm basically doing all lower-speed driving, shifting the power down a bit is pretty darned interesting to me. Unfortunately, I have to get the car smogged annually, and don't want to run afoul of that, nor do I want to drop the fuel economy too much either...

haven't noticed a change in fuel economy, but i imagine there could be an emissions effect.
for that reason i installed an adjustable cam gear so i could zero the cam timing for smog.


back in the early smog days of the 70s, US OEM's would retard their cam timing (via the front gear on the camshaft, on pushrod engines) to meet emissions...guys with old smog motors find a big jump in power when just installing a "straight up" timing gear onto their cams.

that said, i'll give it a shot when i need to smog again with the cam advanced and see if it passes or not.

I know it's trivial to install these offset keys when you're doing a timing belt job, but does anyone know how much of a project it is to swap them in otherwise? (i.e. if the car fails smog as a result, how painful is it going to be to go back to stock?)

Your concern is why I went for an adjustable cam gear rather than using the key...so I can dial mine back to straight-up 0 timing for smog time. Otherwise you'd be in for a full belt job every smog

Ooh, good call. I'd just assumed you'd need to do the same level of dismantling for the adjustable cam gear, but if it's easier than that, sounds like a plan to me.

Unfortunately, the 'collector car' plates around here are only available for MY1975 and older, unless you got grandfathered in when they last changed the rules, so I can't get away with only doing emissions tests every 5 years!

I don't know exactly the adjustability of the cam gear I linked to but, the gear that I installed on my own car (different design) can be adjusted while installed by just removing the distributor cap and front cam gear cover.

I've only ever seen 2 gears like the one I have though.

orbix, what other mods do you have on your car?
With some creative tuning I have been able to pass emissions here in CO 3 times with a gutted cat. I don't have the cam advanced yet, but that last time I passed I had several other mods that should have made it difficult to pass.
