Default Black stone guards on white car

Anyone have pictures of a white 944 with black stone guards? I've seen it on 911s but couldn't find pictures of a 944. Mine need replacing and I was wondering how they would look in black. Thanks

I have wondered about this as well. It's definitely doubling down on the '80s look, but I've never seen it done on a 944. It does look kind of good on a 911, I'll admit. I also have to replace my stone guards on my white 944. Hopefully someone has a photo for us.

OR...can someone photoshop the ones on my car pic above black? I've looked at hundreds of pics of white 944s and none have black stone guards. Thanks

Default Black stone guards on white car

The rear large one in front of the rear wheel looks sort of ok in black but the other small ones just look horrible in anything other than clear. Never understood why people use black ones. Clear all the way IMHO.

I sorta agree with SamGrant951. Black stone guards look great on a white 911, but I'm thinking going clear/white on my replacements. The ones on my car seem to be painted white, when I was scrubbing them to remove the grunge buildup I also removed some of the paint. I'll see how the paint underneath is before I decide on clear or painted replacements. Does the dealer sell new ones?
Thanks for the pics and replies,
Mike

They were originally clear. Yours are painted because your car was repainted, and someone was lazy.

You can find the stone guards on ebay. I can also make them. I can also make them out of different colors, however be warned that the clear vinyl is thicker and much more durable than the colored vinyl.

Be warned that, because your car was painted with the stone guards on, when you peel them off you're bound to have some chipping/tearing/mismatching of the new and old paint. So clear ones on top of that mess might not achieve the look you want.

Man, I freaking hate that. My '84 had a Guards Red respray over both the rock guards and the door molding, so I can't even take them off and redo them until I get the whole car painted. How freaking hard is it, people...

if I could derail this a bit (I love the black main guard look, BTW), how does one remove the clear material? I have rust blooms under mine and want to attend to them.

Will spray adhesive remover work, with a plastic spatula or something?

They don't look as good as black guards on a 911, but I still like both the front and back black stone guards.

Most of the recommendations I've seen suggest very careful use of some kind of heat (heat gun or hairdryer), plus some suggestions for eraser wheels. Check out this thread for several suggestions: What can take out old, cracked, dried stone guard glue?

If you don't have a heat gun, you'd be welcome to borrow one of mine- just drop me a PM if you want.

Alright, here are the specs on mine:
  • I'm using 4mil clear vinyl; the colored vinyl I use is 2mil thick (I have a bunch of colors, including white, red, yellow, gold, silver, matte black, etc.)
  • I've copied the factory ones the best I can on size and shape (e.g. these are *not* oversized - I know there are some oversized ones on ebay for people who don't want to take the old ones off)
  • I've put the masking tape on top, so, when you apply these using a little soapy water, you can rub out the air bubbles *without* scratching the vinyl
  • Price is $40 shipped via priority mail (US only); if you're international shipping will be extra
