It has a reputation for sealing correctly.
That should keep those fumes on track to the carbon filter.

BTW - My local Porsche parts counter matched the Pelican Parts price. I love those guys.

Car looks great man!
If anybody else is wanting to purchase that cap(LINK) or any other European car parts, I offer 10% off for Rennlist members. Just enter RENNLIST at checkout.

She's running well.

Looking great, Joey! Hopefully she will last you a long, long time! Thanks for your pics and endurance during this hard time of reconstruction!

Thanks Rich, and thanks for your input along the way.

Thanks to all of you for your help and inspiration.

My friend and I were just doing laps on the upper level of our parking garage at lunch with our teammates in the passenger seats :-) What a beautiful day and I think I'm starting to get what all of this "Fun driving" talk has been about :-)

tap the bit in before wrenching!
Just looking back on this thread...

The recess for the tool in the triple square bolts are super-shallow, almost negating the additional load points completely.

You are so right, Tempest. that's why I ground off the chamfer on my triple square bit so I could get max contact. That is one shallow head bolt and is really not necessary to have the head that way, since it is so recessed in the rotor adapter. Thanks ..my .02 cents

This bolt can be a challenge.
My resolve of having a professional remove it has been applied to other seized bolts as well.
As far as using another bolt, I feel that the farther inside the engine I go I am much more likely to use the Porsche part to ensure proper clearance and strength of the bolt. That being said if the bolt you replacement part is strong enough, doesn't hit anything, and makes you swear less, no harm no foul. I also had some great success learning online how to wake a bolt and was able to get most all of the bolts on my car to come out. My 2 cents :-)

I'm suspicious of all the one-time use bolts Porsche, and everyone else, uses. My understanding is that they are not used because they are the best fastener for the job, but because they are the cheapest. And triple-square stuff is probably optimized for use by automated wrenches, not people.

Fair.
I however have been impressed on by my mechanics to use the Porsche bolt to keep within the spec of bolt strength that is called for. Either way, if they hold that sprocket on while they are in I'm happy. I was also encouraged to start the removal with an impact driver with the correct cheesehead end.

Hello all.

Don't bother with this particular part unless you can supply it with a locking mechanism. It does not have one in it and has a gaping hole that can fill with gunk. Luckily my mechanic buddies at http://gerbermotorsport.com/ gave me a locking cap (Of the same part number) they have had for years and my gas fumes are already disappearing.
