PLYHAMMER has just sold me the illusive and mysterious Protective Plate for my 944 :-)
Ply's extra effort to send me more pictures to ensure I was ordering the right part makes him VERY AWESOME.

Thanks Ply, I look forward to receiving my part :-)

Tie rod ends should be here soon.
If the car can hold oil and water I might be able to drive it.
Oh please, oh please.

I know the crank seal rides on the oil pump drive but I would take some 3000 grit on the spot you have on the bottom of the crank.

Nothing like a clean motor to work on...looks damn good.

UPDATE
- The radiator did not pass the pressure test and I have found a new replacement on eBay. There are not a lot of them out there right now.
- The tie rod ends have arrived and I will install them this weekend. They are exactly the same as the ones coming off so they alignment should be right with the correct amount of turns.
- I'm also going to re-grease the thrust bearings on the shifter. They rattled a little during the previous test drive.

Cool man! Glad the car is coming along! You're a lot more mechanically inclined than I was at that age! I remember when I was in high school it took us better part of the day for my friends and I to rebuild the CV joints on my 944 turbo (99'). You gotta start some where though and it looks like this car is in good hands.

LOL. Dan I must be coming off as a young man. COOL! I'm actually 46. In my younger years I couldn't fix breakfast.

lol sorry man! There is another thread regarding a teenager that bought a 944 and I thought it was an update to that thread. Some of the veteran guys were giving him a hard time so I was supporting his effort! No worries and still nice work!

UPDATE
- New radiator installed. Pressure test passed and we are still holding coolant
- Steering rack removed and ready to have tie-rod ends removed for replacement
- Wheels removed and cleaned
- Brakes and hubs cleaned
- Random port on the Cat section of the exhaust capped with 1/4" pipe cap
- Engine started. Oil and coolant are still in the car.Tomorrow I'm getting help to safely remove the seized tie-rod collars. Yes... I already tried heating them up.
I'm holding off on painting the backs of the wheels and the calipers.
I'm going to get the car back together and test drive it first.
Ohhhh... so close now.

UPDATE
The tie-rod ends were removed from the steering rack today by my Porsche guys.
They did it without damaging a thing. They are the best.
Unfortunately the right side boot on the rack split, it may have been original. It looked old.
My guys ordered me a new one that should show up at their shop tomorrow.
So what I'm trying to say is... I might be driving my car tomorrow!!!
Stay tuned.

UPDATE
- Steering rack cleaned, lubed, re-booted, re-ended, and re-installed
- Sway bar re-installed
- New pretty lugs put on
- Car put back down on the ground
I went for a test drive.
It took a little bit before the oil light went off and oil was topped off.
The car was running smooth.
I drove it around the block and when I got home I heard a rattle/moan coming from under the hood.
I think it may be the fan, I will play with that today.
So far there is not a drip under the car, even when I checked this morning.
The todo list:
- Track down and fix the noise
- Get an alignment to ensure we are good
- Get a test drive on the freeway
- Replace the 100% distilled water in the cooling system with the proper 50% phosphate free coolant and distilled water.
Keep your fingers crossed.
