Default low/no oil pressure - did timing belt and cam tower gasket

I did the timing belt and cam tower gasket now I have low (1-2) mark oil pressure.

My oil filter was loose and leaked a little but now I still have very low oil pressure and the cam is ticking.

Any clues?

Did I drop something in the engine to clog up the oil passages?

Should I change the oil filter?

Thanks!

Is the bolt on the end of the crank torqued to 150 foot pounds?

Did you remove the crank pulley? If so, the washer on the big bolt has to go on with the convex side out (flat side in). If not there will be little or no oil pressure. Ask me how I know.

It torqued to at least 140 (that's as high as my wrench goes.)

I put it on with the smaller diameter side of the washer out towards the front of the car. Is that what you mean?

150 FT LBs. Be surprized at what 10 pounds will do.

Yeah, that's it. I agree with So Cal, that last 10 ft/lbs is important.

I changed the oil filter and it solved the problem... the car has been up on jacks for about 2 months and now it seems to have a vibration that it didn't have before....

my balance belt seems too tight but it measures correctly. I wonder if that could be it....

also my oil pressure goes up and down, up and down at varying times, from 3-5, any clue why?

I tightened it more than 140, just wasnt able to measure it....

The oil filter was the problem with the engine I pulled from an 86 that had sat for almost 4 years.

As to your vibration: You have the balance shaft belt off and/or you have one of the pulleys on the balance shaft in the wrong possition. Porsche used the same pulley for both shafts but one shaft uses the other key way.

its a real minor vibration and all the pulleys are in the right place since I only took the bottom one off...

its a real minor problem compared to no oil pressure...

Minor vibration could be motor mounts.

If the vibration just started, one of your balance shaftsis probably out by 180 degrees, happens a lot.

The click is probably a lifter, not your cam. Fix your oil pressure and it should go away.

How quickly does the the oil pressure vary? It will go down when the engine's hot.

how do you tell if balance shafts are out by 180 deg?

I drove my car and the pulley for the power steering that attaches to the drive shaft broke and messed everything up.

Anyone have one for sale and the big drive shaft sprocket for the balance belts for sale?

Be sure that the pulley that drives the steering pump has fully engaged the key on the drive shaft. If it dosen't the pulley will wobble and you can't properly torque the nut to 150#.

Uh... The balance shaft belt is under the black plastic cover.

Perhaps you are refering to the wide ribbed belt that drives the alternator and the AC compresssor and it's pulley?

The V-belt power steering drive belt is bolted to the front of the crank shaft. This bolt requres at least 150 foot pounds to tighten properly and double that to remove.

Check out this for parts diagrams:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/944_parts/944_83-85.htm

And this for item 17 the alternator and AC drive pulley and item 24 the power steering V-belt drive pulley.

No! I don't know why they don't crop the image.
