Default AC O-rings

Anyone replace the o-rings when they did the R-134A retrofit on their air conditioning?

I've been doing some reading in preparation for the conversion. It's recommended that the o-rings be changed. I don't know how many or which ones.

Hopefully OZ951 will chime in, he did the conversion on his car. He knows all the o-rings and seals and where they are located and can be of more help than me. I do remember him telling me that he bought all the seals and stuff from the local auto supply store and that he didn't have to change the expansion valve, although it would probably make it even better.

Thanks. It's easier when I don't have to re-invent the wheel so to speak.

First I tried the local NAPA guy, he is a little more expensive but I thought there might be some sort of trick to getting the right O-rings. He was completely mystified - couldn't help at all. So then, when I was in recycling my oil at autozone, I asked about o-rings and they just looked up the car and found a vacuum pack of the right o-rings. 3 or 4 pairs of sizes in each pack, needed two packs. They were blue in color but turned black with a little compressor oil. I guess they're pretty common parts afterall. Oh, and they worked fine - still cooling.

I got mine from 944racing.com, though I haven't installed it yet.

if you go to an autoair shop they should be able to sell you a generic packet of AC orings for $3 or so. I got mine from Carlisle Auto Air (San Antonio) There were enough Orings to do my system twice. The place they were needed was where the AC pipes connect the firewall area, at the dryer, at the condenser and at the compressor. There are only two sizes used.

Oz951 and everyone else,

Thanks for the help. Got the next couple of days off. The o-rings are the last thing needed for the conversion. I'm going to try and get started this afternoon. I'll try and take some digital pictures as I go along.

Terry, I'll be doing the retrofit soon, and I'll really appreciate any pics you could take of your work.

Thanks
Sam
