Default Damn airlines

So I'm trying to arrange to meet a customer in Morgantown WV next Friday. It's about an hour from Pittsburgh.

From Manchester to Pittsburgh $800 $900 EEEEKKK

Boston to Pittsburgh $680
__________________________

Okay, Try BWI which is like 3 hours away

From boston 202, not bad
From Manchester 145 not bad as well.

But most of the flights are through fecking Cleavland and have a travel time of 6+ hours, not incluiding getting to the airport times.

The airlines really need to review thier system, how does 6+ hours of flying come in at 1/4 the price of 2 hours of flying.

It's a 10 hour drive, but I'm considering it for no other reason than in the long run it's not much longer., particularly when you factor in the 3+ hour drive from BWI to Morgantown.

Yeah dude. Well you'll make more money if you can bring jet travel time down lower than 944 NA travel time

I can understand it being exspensive to fly into a Jerkwater town like Morgantown, but c'mon Pittsburgh can't be that exspenseive.

I agree about there system. It's pretty screwed up. You always pay less for more stops. It's weird. You'd think they're having money problems or something.....

supply and demand. They are going there- you need to follow the dedicated routes..

I know.. Springfield to Chicago- 3 1/2 hours drive time, 20$ in gas
Spfld to Chicago. Get to airport an hour early. wait 1/2 hour to take off. 40 minute flight. 1/2 hour getting outta Midway. 480$

You add it up. No wonder theyre all going bankrupt- at least I can keep my nail clippers when I dtive!

Sid, I use to travel to the assembly plants all of the time (work for Ford Motor co.) Check on the cost going through Detroit. You might want to check northwest. I use to fly 2 times a week and that is who I always used. Wish I could sale some of those miles I still have left, 280000.

The question is why they are having money problems.

What I can't understand is in material costs, it costs more to take multiple airplanes, and fly further. I understand having someone fly in a plane that has empty seats costs them less, but there is a law of diminshing returns.

And the direct flights are going to end up empty, so at some point it has to be cheaper to go that way.

I can recall pricing around wierd schedules. I think it was a flight to Dallas. The flight with a connection in Philedelphia was like $300. Then schedules change so I ask for the price of a flight to Philedelphia alone. that was $600 FOR THE SAME FREAKING FLIGHT WITHOUT THE DALLAS LEG!!!!

So I go. Why don't I get the ticket to Dallas get of in Philedelhia.

I think the airlines would make more money if they just scrapped their Quantum mechanics form of ticket pricing and just offered semi flat rates. Cuz I aint flying on this trip, but I would if it was a reasonable price.

Not to mention I've gotten flights to London for like $210, how can it cost 4 times that to fly to Philedelphia.

Sid:
Check to see if there are any puddle jumper flights from BWI to Morgantown. It's airport is actually bigger than you would think. Or a puddle jumper into Cumberland. That would put you about 68 miles to Morgantown. I graduated from WVU so I know this. If you like wings, visit the SportsPage or Boston Beanery on High Street, right downtown.

Sid is getting a vicious lesson in Supply and Demand :>) My wife and I are going to Denver this weekend for the cart race. If I left before noon it saved 600 dollars after noon the price jumped from 303 to just under 900. When I wanted to fly her back on Monday and stay on business until Wednesday back to 900 bucks. The first flight Tuesday morning is back to 303. It is all based on supply and demand.

James at those rates I now know how you can fly 8 days a month! Good going on the running issue. IIRC there was a recall on that part, might want to check.

Tod

Just went to their site.

$900 for a thursday in Friday out, $600 if I do the Saturday return trick.

How bout using some of those miles to get me and my colleauge a ticket. I'm sure I could get the company to pony up a couple of hundred bucks a head for ya.

Ghaaaaaaaaaaa I tried what you suggested. It's almost $900 from BWI to Morganstown. I could rent a lamroghini to do the trip in less time.

This is getting ridiculous. IT gets even wierder.

The flights from BWI to Morgantown go through Pittsburgh, so I check on that. that's $550 WITH ANOTHER ROUTING THROUGH CLEAVLAND!!! MAKING IT A 5 1/2 FLIGHT WHEN IT"S A 3 HOUR DRIVE!!!

I tried a to get a rnd trip flight for a friend of mine from Montreal to Chicago... would've cost him $1200 CDN. I flew to Latvia and back this summer for that price! What gives? I was checking out rnd trip flights from Montreal to Minneapolis with a layover in Chicago and couldn't find anything over $500 CDN.

The system sucks.

Superwagen.

Funny thing is I'm trying to get a a co-worker from St. Lambert down as well. Flights into Pittsburgh are roughly $2000 CDN.

Turns out a different co-worker is doing a trip to GA for me with a stop over in Pitts PA. So we'll bring him down and just change flight times.

Me I'm planning on driving for now (Travel agent even agreed with me on that) and i'll call Wednesday or Thurdsay because often at last minute you can get good deals, since they've been charging the price of a good used car for weeks the plane is empty and they'll do anything to get a couple of asses in the seats.
