Ok- G48 is new to me, thanks.
Audi/VW ZVX 237 105 = Pentosin G001100 = Pentosin NF = G11 = blue, and, then, also = G48.

Chuck,

Not be off topic. Are you still in el Paso? Did you buy the white 944 that has been on craigslist for a good while with the red cookie cutters?

Default It's always something . . . .

Hate to over-fuel a debate but Googling Evans I stumbled upon this on the internet:

http://www.norosion.com/evanstest.htm

I must be missing something, if Evans is 100% propylene glycol (I assume minor amounts of additives) why is it so much more expensive than the full strength propylene glycol (not the 50-50 premix) sold by Prestone, Peak, or "house brands"? How is it different from filling up with full-strength antifreeze without water?

In the mid '80s a friend burned up a '72 Chevy Nova engine; I found out that he filled it with straight antifreeze without any water thinking "if 50-50 is good 100% must be better". Left us stranded a long cold walk north of Ann Arbor. One of those nights that builds character.

Interested in hearing about this as well. I understand there is a specific process to rid the block of all traces of water since the final fill must be less than 3% water by weight. But assuming you followed the same cleaning/filling process, how is Evans different than straight PG?

I know I may be slammed for this but: I have owned a 944 type car since 89 with out a gap between ownership, have maintained them and loved them to no end. Never once have I used anything BUT Prestone green antifreeze and I have yet to have even a tiny problem related to the type of antifreeze thats in the engine. I flush and change it every 2 yrs like clock work and move on.

Well that's interseting. Ever pull a head on any of those? Wonder if there was any signs of corrosion.

I use Prestone 50/50 mix. It says phosphate free. Never a problem. Had the head off recently and all was fine.
