What kind of insurance coverage do you folks get if you are going to use your 944 as a year-round daily driver?
The price of parts raises the rates. Of course insurance companies don't care that the 944 is a great handling care that avoids many accidents.
What are your thoughts?

I own my car outright and can absorb a complete loss so I carry elivated liability only(enough to cover most any situation where I'm at fault ~ don't need to be wiped out for the rest of my life by a court suit). Full coverage isn't worth the cost in my situation but everyone is different.
I don't think I've had full coverage on ANY vehicle I've ever driven, and I've never wished that were different (15 years of driving).

I had full coverage for awhile. I Have an NA 85.5. Full coverage for a year for me at 38 and no accidents or tickets in 20 years is like 1800 a year.. after giving this some thought.. I deemed it not worth it after hearing about how hard it is to get any money for a 20 year old car.. Now a 951 is a different story they cost a lot more. But for me basic is loke 600 a year. at 1800 a year I could buy my car again in just like 18 months. I do not have an exceptional car. It is worth about 4000 in the wide open market.. But around here in mich.. I have not been seeing to much under the 6-7000 dollar range lately.. and may rethink this over.. As you did not indicate which 944 or 951 etc. You need to look around at what is available and how much it would cost you to replace it and so on.. But for me 1800 a year is to much for a car that is worth just 4000... welcome to the list and good luck!

Carry liability through your regular insurance co, then go to Grundy Worldwide for collision coverage. They sell an "Agreed Value" policy for restored and specialty cars. What's nice is there is no limit on miles per year. The only things are, it can not be your ONLY car, and must be kept in a garage.

I pay about 880$ a year for just liability. No tickets but also I'm 20. I don't think it's worth paying 2500 for a year for full while my 951 is probably worth 1/3 of that. I figure if I cause a acciendent I'll pay out of pocket to fix it since I would have saved up that money by not paying it out to the insurance company.

Wow, that's some big insurance bills! I just got my statement a couple of days ago, full annual coverage with some extras only cost me $640 and some change, I thought it was high until I read this post...

LOL... I'm 29, clean record for the past 6 years, continous insurance (on motorcycles) for the entire time ~ 100/300/100 liability rings in at $1200/year. This is in Georgia, with the car "garaged" (carport really, but I lied). At least the motorcycle is $80/year for 250/500/250 liability and I use that a HELL of a lot more than the car (though it's near $600/year if I go full coverage w/ a $1000 deductable).
Insurance is a bitch, someone buy my car so I can keep that $1200 in my pocket for next year...

I pay $2400 a year full coverage with a $5000 deductible! I am 24 with a clear record. This also represents a 2 car discount, and covers liability on an '88 Olds. through Progressive. Just the Porsche would be $156 a month for full coverage.
I have been giving serious thought to leaving just liability, but I am scared of Murphy's Law. I don't have to cash to fix a crash. It is ashame to realize one could have bought another 944 with two years of insurance cost.
I tried Grundy, but they are looking just to insure collector cars. Not daily drivers. They refused my coverage.. even though I only drive it 6 months a year, and it is garage kept. I spoke to them directly. They will give you a automatic estimation when you fill out your info on there website... but that is a best case scenario type deal.
You may be able to lie to them.. telling them you don't drive the car to work.. etc.. and only for shows and pca events. Thats what they want.
