Default Euro Options

I finally have explored enough of my car now to try and reconstruct it's history. It is an early 1985 Euro car. The car has 15 inch fuchs, manual steering, 23mm front sway bar and 14 mm rear sway bar (that seems like a strange combination), Euro body work. The front springs seem to have three blue dabs of paint (at least on one of them)

I have attached a photo of the options sticker. I think I have decoded most of the options:

C00 - Country Germany
M12 - Sports Design Package (What is that?)
M99 - ??
429 - White Fog Light
454 - Cruise Control
650 - Removable Sunroof
651 - Electric Windows
666 - Without lacquer + chrome preservation (huh?)
715 - Control PV-U Production Pilot Run (interim model?)

I am trying to figure out what was original and what was added.

Does anybody know what the details are for M12 and M99?

Thanks!

IIRC those springs are the hardest you can get for the 944 NA.

my car also came (as far as i know) with factory 23/14mm sway bars.
i changed to 25.5/18 and 200# front springs but will probably change the front bar back to 23 until i can get some stiffer torsion bars.

nice option combo!

That's not such a strange combination.

US-spec cars with M456 [sport suspension] were fitted with 23mm/14mm sways and Koni sport dampers [non-adjustable].

I *think* 'no lacquer preservation' indicates a single-stage color. '+chrome' is just a blanket description: there is no chrome on the car. The same option could have been used on chrome-equipped Porsches, Audis and VWs and they option description just stayed the same. Some colors only came in single-stage.

No clue on M12. You do have sport seats though. Could be a country-specific package that consisted of the seats, suspension, and wheels?

429 - fog lights were not standard like in the U.S.

715 is interesting. You car is clearly an early '85, but I do see one item on the car not from that year. But that doesn't mean anything really, as it could have been replaced.

BTW, the rear red sidemarker was added as part of the federalization/import process at the time. Sometimes there is an accompanying one in the front. Funny - I could be wrong, but I don't think sidemarkers are a DOT mandate any longer.

Car looks original to me.

This is always a debatable description. Many times cars sit on their original dealer lot for months, or years even. Then the dealer may install options to help the car sell. These options of course aren't on the option sticker, but are arguably 'original.'

As for the 715 code, from a quick search my best guess is that it's an internal designation for '84 produced chassis to specify that these are the early 85 model and not the new 85.5... Everyone that has that option has early 85 cars from what I've seen.

It's definitely not "polyVinyl undercoating" test model like one person speculated in one of those links, as there are other option codes 734 and 735 "PV-O SERIES ENGINE (NON SERIES)" and "PV-O SERIES TRANSMISSION (NON SERIES)".

I wonder what the PV-U and PV-O stand for....
