Budget big brake upgrade for early cars...My Boxster caliper install
#46
Hey Mark shoot me a PM with your # again
#47
I found some old project notes where I modded a set of Dodge Rotors to fit the stronger Early NA hubs they were 304 x 28mm and the owner used Wilwoods. The newer boxster calipers with 130mm radial mounts work great on NA spindles with 76mm mounts, so this would be another M030 equivalent for the NA hubs/spindles.

Curious as to why OP said that this would be a good front upgrade, is it not applicable to the rear? From what it seems like is being done there shouldn't really be any impingement from doing this to the rear brakes as well right?

Firstly, apologies for the necro...
Nice work!
I'm considering doing this, front and rear.
Why?
* I get uneven wear on the rear brakes,
* I've got very long pedal travel and crappy pedal feel since I got a new ATE brake master cylinder (no clue why),
* So I want a better pedal feel again,
* And mostly to reduce unsprung weight.
What I've learnt so far:
* You need 4 Boxster calipers (non-S version).
* 911 3.2 SC front rotors to get 24 mm thickness.
* The 944 front rotors are anything between 5-6 kg, the 911 rotor I've seen is 5.4 kg, so no reason not to use it. Price is also about the same.
* Rears use stock 944 rotors as the Boxster also had 20 mm discs at the back.
* Adapters should be available from VDub in the states or porscheshop in the UK.
* You need to modify your backing plates.
* Will fit 15" rims.
Open question:
* Will brake balance be OK if I also do the rears and keep the stock master cylinder?
Thanks for the help!

iSH - one thing to consider is that the front NA spindles have a 76mm caliper mount spacing, but the rears are 95mm.
you'd need an adapter to use the same calipers front/rear, or use 951 front spindles as those are 95mm too.

Thanks V2.
Probably I wasn't clear enough: I was planning to use the rear Boxster calipers on the rear. I don't know about their bolt spacing, just that they take a 20 mm wide rotor. Any info will be appreciated here.
Still, my main concern is brake balance. Does anybody have any info on piston diameter for the rears?
Another annoying bit is that performance rotors seem rather expensive. i mean the 911 3.2l fronts. The Black Diamond 6 grooves are like 350 GBP when the 944 version is 280. :O
