Default Budget big brake upgrade for early cars...My Boxster caliper install

List of items:
986 Boxster Calipers (I purchased used for $80)
1984-89 Carrera rotors (Purchased new for $90)
Axxis ceramic pads (purchased close out price $25)
Xschop m030 Caliper adapters

The caliper adapters were made to put m030 calipers on an NA spindle, the Caliper mounts are the same distance but the widths and heights are different. I inverter the adapter and added spacers to center it on the caliper. The boxster caliper sits a little high (3-4mm) but it still grabs great. I reported back to xschop and we'll go from there...this could be a great solution for early cars to have an awesome, budget friendly front brake setup.

Impressions...

These things bite!!! I still have manual brakes due to my v8 swap, but these really stop well. MUCH better than the OE (mine even had a fresh rebuild) calipers and rotors. I am very happy with the upgrade, it'll only get better after hydroboost or whatever method I find to boost my brakes. I'll modify or get a different adapter to seat the calipers lower, later down the line, but this is a very worth while upgrade especially if you can find the parts as cheap as I did. Thanks XSCHOP for helping make this happen!!! It's awesome the m030 are close in dimension, this is going to open the doors to wonderful things.

I also have S2 front calipers for my rear brakes, and an S2 master cylinder.

I've been looking at doing this as well when I need to change wheel sizes.

Time for smaller wheels so you can show them off better

I have some BBS LM replicas that will show them off nice, waiting to get some wider tires for those wheels. They look smaller than they really are which will benefit the looks of the brakes. The wheels in the pics were ex track wheels, I still need to refinish them.

Show a pic of the caliper/adapter/rotor from the backside. I'll see what needs to be done to make it happen.

Also post rotor dimensions. If not I'll try finding tech drawing. And there is a caliper dimension that is easy to take and confirm the axial dimension on the adapter.

Lastly how close is tie-rod balljoint to inner rotor sweep?
Very cool swap.

I heard back from one guy that the m030 on early swap fit under 16" phone dials.

How much does that overlap the dust shield?
Looks great! Something else to ponder.

I took the dust shield off, it needs to be modified for the calipers. The Carerra rotor is only 3mm bigger OD (iirc) so I'm sure it's still usable if trimmed.

This is great news for those who want big brakes on a budget that also want to fit them under 16" wheels.... The boxster calipers will sit a couple mm lower. I might meet up with someone the has 16" Fuchs, I'll try those out too.
