I still maintain that we should do this much more often, but I think i'm going to need a legal copy to play on the internet first. I guess I'll start looking around the bargain bins...

Today is tues I posted that after midnight Monday night.

You don't need a legal copy to play peer-to-peer. The server-person would just post his IP and we would connect to that.

Well, I'm up for a few games.. if I wake up in time!

But we have to do at least one run with the 550 in the alps... my favorite!

Any tips on gettin it to run on my PC?

Windows 2K SP3
Athlon 3000
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro Vid card.

I loaded it, did not run. I spent no time trying top fix it though.

Thanks!

I don't know if it will run on 2k, but try running in compatibility mode.

Yep, mine works in Win 2k so it is definitely possible.

Do what he said - right click on the PORSCHE.EXE executable file and try setting it to Win98 compatibility mode.

Also make sure you have newest video drivers as well as a new version of DirectX.

Are you getting a specific error, or does it just not load?

It might be a good idea too for everyone to update to the newest version of the game ahead of time so that we're not scrambling later on.

An easy way to do this is to go into "Multiplayer" from the main menu, then click on the first option - "internet play" or something along those lines. When you try to do that / connect it will ask you to update (or do it on its own). Agree to the update and it will bump you up to the newest version of 3.5. This is not the same as the 3.5 patch that's going around the internet, this is actually more like 3.9 or something but they never changed the version.txt :|

I downloaded Porsche Unleashed during my first semester of school, but could never get it running. Just a couple of weeks ago i finally got the game running and have been playing it ALOT for the past two weeks.

IMO you have to play with the low front view to really get a good sensation of speed. About the patch... do you have to have a legal copy to download it and install?

If you go to www.ea.com and go to the support section, and select PC games - Need For Speed, Porsche Unleashed, and search the FAQ section - there will be a link for the auto-update / patch so that you can download it manually, if your version is crashing when you click on update from inside the game.

I'm almost 100% sure you cannot use the patch with the Warez / illegal version.

The patch needs to verify that porsche.exe is the correct size, and since the warez version eliminates the code that searches for the CD, the sizes will not match and you will not be able to update.

Go buy the full game, you can get it for under $7.00 nowadays. And if you can't afford that, you have no business owning a 944!!!!

However if you have an illegally copied version of a legitimate original CD, you can patch it perfectly fine.

Either way, it's an amazing value if you can find it for $5-$10.
I've gotten many many hours of fun out of it.
