Default Radiator Hose - How Much To Trim Off?

Car was at the track today and the pulley notched the lower radiator hose.

This happened to me with my S2 a dozen + years ago, and after two "bad" hoses my wrench solved the problem by trimming a bit off of the lower end of the hose so it wasn't near the pulley.

I picked up a new hose for "only" $45, the car is at the track, so I don't have the luxury of shade, time, etc.

About how much did others trim so that the hose doesn't rub the pulley?

Sorry, my computer is running like crud and it takes forever to search.
Thanks

An inch or so was all I needed to get clearance.

That much? What did you use to cut the hose?
Thanks

Be careful... Too much will pull the hose into the fans.

Bought an S from a local rennlister with a buddy from my old job for the track. He is a novice that wants to get into vintage racing. Well, this isn't racing, but it sure is vintage! In say two seasons we will see where we want to go with the car.

I'm friendly with a guy who was an art major in college and is handy with an air brush. I may ask him if he wants to try his hand after many years with the car as his canvas. Or I may see if the local community college auto program needs a car to paint. Or we may just run it as an ugly beast, and call the tired paint patina.

A quick "fix" is to put (SS) hose clamps back-to-back along that area. Won't hurt the pulley.
