Got some goodies with the car! Found the original tool set and the original pack of gloves that came with the car:

Nice, also now I see why I can't find a place to store the lug tool that was clanging around in my back seat footwell when I bought the car.

I love that front end, if you ever decide to part with it can I be first in line? You should get some black honey comb or similar pattern metal to fit in the holes. Or brake ducts in the sides!

Got the cylinder head off tonight and found four bent valves. I found that the belts were intact but that they were damp with oil and coolant. Perhaps the belt had slipped and jumped a couple teeth and bent the valves due to the contaminants on the belt. Here are a couple pics. I will get some more later of the head.

Appears you have some slack in the cam belt between the guard rail and idler pulley...

I took the picture with the head removed. There is no tension on either belt.

Okay...saw the first photo with the head removed but, for what ever reason, didn't put two and two together for the second photo. Going back, I now see the naked head stud, in plain sight, at the upper left portion of the photo.

Guess, in the back of my head, figured it would be of little use to post a photo of the cam belt, with its tensioner released, if we were trying to ascertain the root cause of bent valves.

Let us know what you find.

Thank you. I thought it was a fair deal. I knew it needed engine work after hearing the engine crank over. But the body and interior were so clean, I thought that it wasn't a bad deal.

Nice find and a steal for the condition it appears to be in.

Its a really clean car. Once its back together I will post more pics of the car overall. Right now, its a little tough in the garage. Waiting on more parts though and I need to take the head to a machine shop to have teh valves done and to have the head milled.

Head goes to the machine shop tomorrow. I'll know the extent of the damage this week.

Been awhile since I've updated. Yesterday I got my head back from the machine shop. Its all cleaned up with straight valves and new valve guide seals. I have some other prep work to do before the head goes on today. Hoping to have it bolted on tonight. Any tips would be appreciated since this is the first 944 head job that I've done. Here are a couple pics of the head:

Made some good progress tonight. I was able to get the head on, get the exhaust bolted in place, replace the bypass hose and clean the cam box. I still need to install new seals on the cam box before I install it, but I'm happy with the progress I made tonight.

Head gasket set on and head ready to install:

Head and exhaust manifolds installed:

Bypass hose replaced:

Cam box exterior clean:
