Cell phone dropped down heat/air duct
I'd take a picture but I don't have my cell phone.
My 951 is gutted. If you can envision, when I turn on the heat/air, a metal flap comes up (I guess that's the defrost duct). On the side facing the metal flap is a roughly 6" horizontal X 1.5" vertical opening where the heat/ait comes out.
This ~6" X ~1.5" opening is where my cell phone dropped down into. Too far for fingers to reach, probably at the bottom.
Any ideas on how to get it out?

A piece of the shiny metal tape used for air condition duct install attached to a long stick or coat hanger wire. This tape is very sticky and will surely attach itself to the errant cell phone. Go fish

The techs at the dealer couldn't see it with the cam and said it would be 5-10 hrs to take apart the plastic duct and get it out.
When I knock at it towards the bottom it soulds hollow so I plan on just getting a utility knife, cutting out a hole, and pulling it through
Any reason I shouldn't (aside from additional heat escaping into the cabin?

Can you try calling it from another phone and use a stethoscope or similar to see where the ringing sound seems to be coming from?
Whatever you do, do NOT let the Malaysian government try to help you find it.

You should be able to take the trim/grille off the front of the dash, where the AC comes out and reach right into the airbox. I have a gutted car at home, I can take pictures of the inside later today or tomorrow if you need.

If you do cut it open, I'd recommend using the metal silver ducting tape to cover the hole and then repaint it with satin finish paint from the auto parts store. Using the fabric based "duct tape" is not a good idea, as it gets real hot under the dash and the adhesive won't tolerate it for long. You've probably already concluded that only cut three sides of the hole and pull down the "lid" you've created to get your phone out. Then just push it back into the hole until it's flush and tape it up.

Just got er done:
cut three sides (long cuts horizontally) towards the bottom with a home improvement utility knife

Black windshield sealer, like duct seal but much sticker. Commonly referred to as " Monkey Sh*t" can be molded onto a paint paddle or ruler and sticks like crazy.
