Default Looking for a 968

Specifically one car that originated in Atlanta. This 1993 Guards Red with black interior 968 6-speed was bought new from Jim Ellis Porsche. To help narrow down the search since I do not have the VIN this car was optioned with M030, sports seats with red piping, LSD. It was sold in 1997 to a gentleman in St Louis who I believe autocrossed it until mid-2000s. I believe this PCA member passed away and the car was sold by his widow. I know these a vague details but thought it might be a shot to see if I can find my first Porsche.

Seth,

PM me as I can help. I'm the PCA 968 Advocate and have complete databases of all the North American 968s. Can you tell me what color the interior was?

That sounds exactly like the m030 that rennlist user wi54545 bought from uscarrera and sold a few years ago. I'd ask him where it went.

You got me! I missed that.

Anyway, there were:

548 G1 Red coupes
21 G1 Red coupes with M030
10 G1 Red coupes with M030 in 1993
3 G1 Red coupes with M030 and black interior and sport seats and 220 LSD in 1993

The good news is that the 3 are different enough but we need more option information to figure out which one was your car. So....

Did your car have the painted side molding?
Did your car have the body colored rear spoiler?

The answer to those questions will tell us which one was yours. Then a Carfax will tell you where it is.

Thank you for all the reply.

Jeff to answer your questions the car did not have a body colored rear spoiler but I do believe it had the painted side molding. But to clarify can you tell me which side molding this was referring to? I am going off memory of the car so I want to make sure I am right.

Thanks

If these look familiar contact rennlist member WI54545, it is M030 and LSD and matches your description...

Good find. That looks like it but it didn't come with red stitching in the door and the seats were sport seats with red piping. Stitching was a different option.

So, if it didn't have the rear spoiler in body color then that gets us down to 2. One of them had the body colored side moldings. The other one did not. So, you think it did? PM me and I'll get you the VIN.

I don't have the piping options in my database.

Okay Seth, The investigation is complete. I've PMed you the full VIN for your car but below you'll find the factory production data. I contacted a fellow RLer who has a Carfax account, which he ran, and the results look to confirmed that this is your old car.

North American 968 Register production profile – Coupe PS820533
• NA 968 coupe 1992-1995 Production sequence number of 2,234: #1,122
• NA 968 coupe 1993 Production sequence number of 605: #473
• Exterior Color statistics: 1 of 548 G1 Red coupes (2nd most popular color)
• Exterior/Interior Color combo stats: 1 of 313 G1 Red coupes paired with black interior (2nd most popular combo)
• Factory options with option codes:
o LT partial leather in black
o XD4 painted crest center caps
o 030 Sport suspension (includes 17" wheels)
o 220 Limited slip
o 383/387 sport seats
o 403 17" cup1 wheels (included with 030 sport suspension package)
o 418 side molding painted in body color
o 490 hi-fi sound with amps

• Comments: March 1993 build date. 1 of 99 M030 North American 968 coupes, 1 of 21 M030s in G1 red, 1 of 41 M030s with sport seats.

Now, the carfax results:

Delivered in Georgia - stayed until 05/97 - 31,563

Next stop Missouri - stayed until 01/98 - 44,634

Next stop Wisconsin - stayed until 08/00 - 47,900

Next stop Illinois - and was last recorded there in 02/04 - 52,235

Then CF states:

"01/06/2006 - Ontario Ministry of Transportation - Registration issued or renewed - vehicle previously registered in New York - Vehicle color noted as red"

Strange, as CF doesn't show any record of a NY registration and this is the last entry in the record.

So, it looks like your old 968 is in Ontario. There are some RLers in Canada who may be able to find it for you. It should be easier to spot up there as it is a US car. All true canadian 968s have headlight washers on the front bumper.

Good luck.

Jeff
