Can someone please let me know where to find tune up specs on this site? I don't have a shop manual yet. I need cap and rotor part numbers, and the gap on the NGK BP 6ES plugs. My 944 is an 85 S1. I live in the Seattle area and would like to get to know some other local owners. Thanks very much. Sam

check out clarks-garage.com for an online shop manual. Part numbers for the cap, etc. can be found on autoatlanta's site where they have an online parts catalog, however your standard parts dealer websites also have lookups for common parts such as the cap and rotor and you do not need a Porsche part number to find them.

Additionally, Paragon Products and Rennbay are very good parts resources that are active on this forum.
And, as you start to do work, make sure you utilize the search function here in the forum.

If you're replacing the cap, rotor, and spark plugs, I recommend replacing the spark plug wires as well. There are kits available on websites like 944 Online that include everything you need to replace these items.
There are two caps to choose from:
Bosch: 944-602-251-00-M14 ($42)
Beru: 944-602-251-00-M47 ($30)
For the rotor you can use:
Bosch: 944-602-906-01-M14 ($42.75)
Genuine Porsche: 944-602-901-01-OEM ($141.24)
The spark plug gap should be 0.7 to 0.8 mm (0.028 to 0.031").
Follow this link for all of your 944 parts/part number needs.

1. you can get the parts manual as a PDF download from the Porsche site.
2. use OEM parts for the cap and plugs, don't use the cheap aftermarket ones - the good wires are about 5 times more expensive, but work better. Personally I like Beru wires. The rotor is expensive because it has a small inductor built into it. The Bosh rotor works fine.
3. you will want to seek out a Porsche shop manual, do not use the Haynes manual - there are PDFs out there if you search around.
4. be sure to change your brake fluid every 2 years, it will save you $$$

Another very good parts diagram - and a decent place for parts, too - is:
