Does anyone know anything about this???
VW Roadster !!!
If this is for real and coming to the USA i think they will take the market by storm! 1500 lbs of mid-engine roadster at $24k !!! Best thing since the 914 !!! Goodbye Mr-2....goodbye z4 ... goodbye Elise...goodbye 350z roadster...goodbye audi TT.... Man, i think i would take one in neon green or orange! If its for real and it actually handles like a german should, it seems irresistable! Any opinions?

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "goodbye elise" I doubt that VW could actually restrain itself and build a light car, sure hope they do though, I'd love one.
Would have liked to see the 1.8T in there too, what's with a weak little NA 2.0l with no real options for upgrades?

Elise? Ok, Lotus styling is nice...but i don't know if ide be willing to drop money on Lotus building a production car. I've seen enough when i was researching an Esprit and those are hand built. I decided on Porsche instead. Reliability. Elise is a great idea and i like it...but ide feel much safer with VW building the same thing. And im sure the power will be upgradable, if not whats another couple thousand on aftermarket? Besides, Lotus is extremely exotic to the American market. I cant see the public grabbing onto the Elise. VW is everywhere. General public will drop money on a marketable name before an obscure one. If VW pulls this one off right, it could be the 914 of the future! We are long overdue. Besides, 6 second acceleration isnt bad. My S2 pushes that. Anything more will be great!

I doubt VW will be able to meet their stated wt goal. The TT roadster is 3400 lbs, so for this to be . There is no way it will come in at 1323 to 1543 lbs. That is pure smoke. The elise is 1750 and that is sick, but do it Lotus has an incredibly stiff and strong aluminum sub frame, and a totally stripped interior, and it is listing for 38k in US.
Then VW has to get 150 hp out of their tired old 2.0 nomally aspirated engine, same engine in the base beetle that is what 105hp? So they save wt by no power steering box, wow, that trims all of 27.35 lbs.
I can't see this thing happening within those specs and cost target of 24,500 USD.

I don't think it'll compare to Lotus performance, but the VW comes in at about half the cost.
I also have my doubts about whether we'de ever see it on US roads.
Never know, though.

I like it, now if they would put the new 2.0L Turbo motor in there, then we might have something 700kg and 250 hp..... Would be fun..
Reminds me of a miata in town that puts 350 to the wheels and will run with liter bikes on the highway.....

TT Coupe is 200 lbs lighter but still a pig at 3247, of course that is quattro 180hp front track is 2921. I just cannot believe VW will be able to produce a US spec car that is even close to the Elise wt let alone their claim.
