Default "ALL" Dash Gauges Died, Car Still Runs

At a race last week and as I was sitting on grid, all the dash gauges dropped. I mean everything including the tach. The car was still running perfectly. Myself and a friend tried to figure it out, but to no avail, so I missed the race entirely.

No bad fuses, connections seem fine. Very strange... I will say it was damn cold, about 30 degrees and had been down to the 20's that night. Car was fine through practice and qualifying. Went out today to see if it's still the case and it is. Hit the main power switch and nothing moves. Hit the starter button and she lights right up.

Does anyone know what has caused this or where I can start to look? I'm thinking the DME has a broken solder point because of the cold combined with vibration. Thanks!

If it was a DME problem, it wouldn't run... I bet it's a ground problem with your instrument cluster.

I would start by pulling the instrument cluster and detaching and attaching the three connectors to the back of it. It's most likely one of these are loose or as Van stated, a ground connection. It could be a ground connection at one of three connectors.

check the wiring harness that goes over the steering shaft. had mine rub against the sheetmetal and it shorted out and melted the next wires etc while on the freeway and all the gauges died

My wiring diagram says that the dash instruments are all grounded at MPII which I believe is under the dash near the driver side windshield post -- very near the instrument cluster.
