OP start the $1,000 swap. The junkyards are overfilled so take some parts off their hands while stimulating the economy, and then stimulate the economy more because world needs more incomplete projects that result in new car purchases that sit outside while the abandoned project becomes mouse food in the garage.
Or be a selfish bastad and spend the $1,000 on fixing what you have, or sell what you have and add the $1,000 to buy something reliable and use that for transportation while hoarding the cash you would have spent on a new car. But, if you take this route, when the next recession hits, and you buy bargains with the hoarded cash that you subsequently sell for a massive profit, make sure you include another Porsche on your bucket list of things to spend the profits on.
Keep us updated on the progress.

Thanks for all the info... I'm only considering a swap if my engine grenaded. When I said $1,000, I mean that I would part it out if it's over that limit. I'm attached to my car, but I also have common sense.
Luckily, it's looking good for the stock lump! I got pressure today
Which is great, because it has 5,000 miles on it, forged internals, a competition cam and valve grind, lightened crank, and most of my life savings invested

bottom line.
between the above mentioned engines and the huge Hummer H3 I-5 motor (that can be turboed to dependable 600+ hp,
there are lots of great power plants for these cars.
and none of them are built by Porsche.
