Yesterday, I picked up a low mileage, CPO 2012 Cayenne, meteor grey metallic over luxor beige. Which makes her a nice compliment to my stone grey metallic over black 951.
I've been looking and waiting for a long time to get one. Hoping that a low mileage CPO, in a color combination I wanted and at a good price would appear and it finally did.
After one night with her, I am in love with two Porsches. She's quick, agile, very comfortable and very importantly, still under warranty. I absolutely love the interior, love the dash layout, love the seats (std 8-way), love the driving position and love how it handles.
For those that have bashed the VW sourced 3.6L V-6, I have a strong suspicion they don't have a clue about much. With the lighter 958 chassis, it's a great motor for 98% of the people driving Cayennes. No, it's not lightning fast like a turbo but it's quick enough and with the Cayenne's agility, faster than just about all other SUVs out there.

Well the Cayenne got it's first long distance trip this past weekend, just short of 700 miles round trip from eastern NC to the NC mountains and back. Here's the quick review.
1) There isn't an SUV on the market that'll keep up with or keep close to a Cayenne on mountain roads. Same can be said for quite a few cars too.
2) The base 8-way seats are a dream. I have never been so comfortable in a vehicle. Driver fatigue was pretty much non-existent. (Hmm, can I get some into my 951?) My two teenagers reported the back seat was very comfortable. Better than my M-B E320, better than my old 2000 Suburban, better than the old 2008 X5 and better than their mom's 2013 Lexus E350.
3) The big surprise, gas mileage. We averaged just under 26 MPG for the whole trip with an average speed of 64 MPH. That's trip average at that! I was typically running between 75-80 on the interstate.
4) The 20" Pirelli Scorpion Verde tires that came on it are loud. They have 18K miles on them and maybe 40% tread left. Thankfully, Porsche is replacing them for me. Hopefully, not with another set of them. Fingers crossed.
5) The rear view visibility is greatly compromised by the odd shape of the rear view mirror.
6) Lane change assist is a nice feature and helps a great deal in heavy traffic.
7) It may only have a VW sourced 300 HP V-6 engine but it has plenty of power. It's got a pleasant exhaust note too.
8) The tiptronic buttons are a lot easier to use then the automotive press would have us believe. Shifts are good and quick and I never felt they were slow.
9) Some of the PCM menus are easy and intuitive while others are maddening. The IPod controls are maddening. Driving and changing iPod music at the same time is not advised.
10) The Panamera inspired layout and all the buttons are initially a bit overwhelming. But one quickly realizes the simple logic and they become rather easy to use.

Last year, I was in the market for a used SUV for my wife. I was pushing hard for a Cayenne. Drove several different models, and the V6 was without a doubt my favorite of the bunch. Anyone who would knock the VR6 motor is an imbecile. Arguably one of the best v6 motors ever produced, regardless of the manufacturer.
But then again, there are a ton of great v6 motors on the market right now. Thanks to variable valve timing, direct injection and turbos the v6 is quickly becoming the best all-around drive train for larger vehicles. Enjoy your car, as for me I have to just imagine what it’s like as my wife chose to go with another LX470. Can’t say I blame her it is the best SUV on the market IMHO, but I would still argue that the Cayenne is the best SAV.

I'm looking foward to seeing this beauty in person!
Can the V6 tow? As in, say a 951 to the track?

Once you go with the raised center console, so hard going back to previous interiors. Initially it takes awhile to adjust to it, but really is a great interior design and easier to use features as they are all near eachother.
