After reading that on the 968 that you dont have to pull the trans and TT out the back to RR the clutch, I did a photo search and expected to find something similar to a 928 setup where the lower half of the bell housing drops to get to the clutch but the bellhousing appears to be a solid unit.
How do you RR clutch on a 968 ??

Well thats the way all 944 bell housings should be made.
Next question which has probably been ask many times before is can you swap a 968 bell housing and torque tube into a 944 ?? I assume the clutch fork, rod and slave would have to be changed and probably other parts or do you have to swap out the entire bell TT and trans ??
Thanks

Dont want to bother you with endless questions but general what is involved in the actual swap ??
Like do you use the fork, throwout bearing, slave etc from the 968 ??
Do you have to run a 968 clutch package and if so will that work with a 944 flywheel ??
I have had 5 928s and to me that was one of the best parts of the car. The rest of the clutch system was an incredible PIA.

I really cannot comment, as what I "know" has only been what I've read. I still run 951 everything.
Maybe someone who owns a 968 or has done a conversion can chime in and shed a little more light.

Thanks,
Since I want to set up an early stripped down car any way, it will probably be easier to just to pull the engine.
From the looks of it and unanswered questions on the link a 968 might be in order, but not if the bell housing breaks.
That starter flange looks like it would be the first thing to go.
928s also had problems with the bell housings and I actually still have a good one I kept as a spare.
I have been saying for years with the 924, 944, 928 cars, the designers did a great job with the engine and also from the trans back up to the TT then blew it on the clutch design. A 2 piece steel bell housing would solve a lot of problems.

To do the swap for the quick change clutch job you need a different flywheel, clutch , 968 bell housing and the 968 torque tube is easily a 2-3k thing.
