Post Cam Tower Cover anyone?

Strange thing happened today...on beltline in Raleigh crusing about 65mph suddenly I produced smoke from my 87 944NA like a NASCAR stock car with a blown motor.Engine never missed a hit but decided to stop as I knew this was not a good thing. After stopping and popping the hood I found flames on the header where oil had caught on fire.Upon inspection I find a nice hole in the side of the cam tower about the size of a fifty cent piece with oil flowing nicely. It's amazing how much air volume you can achieve when you see fire under the hood! Now I'm in need of a cam tower cover as noone seems to have one around close by in NC...any ideas ?Thanks in advance!
It looks like I'll be getting a new belt and water pump etc...

Email this guy:

Henry DeGroof - hdegroof@yahoo.com

He had one for sale several weeks back on Ebay. I don't think it received any bids.

You can also try Ian at

http://www.ianseuroparts.com/

They have new & used parts that have always been fairly priced.

Good luck! Michael

P.S. I'm replacing waterpumps, rollers, belts and many gaskets!

Wait a minute here, you must have something screwed up. How did you put a hole the size of a 50c piece in the cam tower cover? Maybe you just had one of the camcover access plugs unscrew and fall out? If so, just get a new plug.

But I would think it would be obvious to you that one plug is missing since there are six of them there and they all look the same. And they are more like the size of a quarter. If you actually poked/burned a new hole the size of a 50c piece in the cover, you have bigger problems than finding a new cam cover.

Well I wasn't screwed up but did fail to mention that it was a bolt of some sort that came through the side of the cam tower....unfortunately...it was about 1.5" long...that may end up being a another story when we get into things! Thanks for the info guys!

Whoa! Yeah, you probably could use a new cam tower cover, plus a lot more.

Thanks to all you guys who posted and emailed me.I actually lucked up today and found one 70 miles away at a salvage yard.I immediately jumped in the car and went and got it.Fifty bucks for cover and cam together. Both appear to be in good shape but will let my mechanic decide on the cam.Maybe next week I'll be able to get to report on what kind of damage I have inside when he starts on it.He actually had about five wrecked 944's there on the site along with one '85 928 and had a good motor for it.I asked if he shipped out for customers and he said he'd be happy to.Anyway if anyone would like to contact about parts they seemed good to deal with.I'll list the contact info below. Also as of monday I'm calling and getting one of those raffold tickets and becoming a full fledged rennlist member...thanks again guys.

I'll buy the spare cam that you'll end up with if I may ($25-35?). Need it as a core for a performance-oriented one. Thanks - danno <danno@thevine.net>
