Default WTB: Manual window conversion parts

Looking for all the parts needed to convert from power windows to manual. If you have these parts taking up space, let me know what you want for them.

Take a look over on 924board.org

A much higher percentage of 924s came with manual windows than 944s.
I've only seen 3 cars with manual windows before.

Seeing as this thread got bumped, I'll update it too!

I actually found a brand new 944 cup window winder for the drivers side. Passenger side is the 924 part adapted, still on the lookout for the cup winder, but they're probably unicorns.

What's the weight difference between the manual and power window mechanisms?

As I recall (its been a few years since I handled a manual window mechanism) its not a lot of weight difference, but it does let you simplify wiring and add reliability

I want to say the pair of manual winders was 17 or 20 lbs??

Maybe I just wandered into a mine field, but I've started looking for the manual regulators to put in a track car, an 89 S2, along with door cards and it looks like all this stuff is NLA, I guess the S2 was never even offered with regular old crank windows? My guess is the parts from the base early 80's cars would fit if I could find some salvage parts? Suggestions? Do the 924 parts work?

Sorry for the noise, I was using the wrong part numbers. I found most everything.

Still, if anyone's parting out a car with any of them, I'd be happy to buy them. I need both left and right regulators and crank handles.

Hey Otto- when I was looking, the driver-side manual regulator part was showing as NLA- did you happen to find a source for that one that wasn't a one-off?

Paragon has a page w/ all the conversion parts here, but lists that one regulator as defunct: http://www.paragon-products.com/Manu...window-kit.htm

I believe the manual regulators are NLA. I looked for a while with no luck, seems the only source remaining is used and those are quite rare to find.

I'm working on an alternate solution that is even lighter than the manual winders, I'll post a write-up here when I'm done.

By the way, I weighed the power regulator + motor as removed from my S: it was 5 pounds 8 ounces. I can't imagine a manual winder would save much more than a pound or so off that, though.

My lightweight component list Notes recorded a 1.5kg (3.3 Lbs) saving for the pair of manual mechanisms.

I got mine from German Ebay after struggling to find any in the UK, handles from uk ebay for a Golf Mk1

Here's a few, the Keywords are Porsche 924 Fensterheber

Will be very curious to see the alternate option once you get there!

In my case, I have no real interest in weight savings- I just hate the power rigs that are expensive and prone to failure. Part of what I love about my early 944 is the simplicity, and power windows and sunroof are on my list of things to simplify when I get the chance.

It's not anything groundbreaking, really, just straps to hold up the windows instead of regulators. Plenty of people have done similar things on other cars before, although I'm not sure I've seen it for a 944.

Sorry, I missed this.

No, I never found parts for either side, I guess I should have written that I'd found the part #'s (I'd been looking in the wrong place on the PET). I never have found the parts though, sorry.
