Semi-inexpensive 215/60/15 tires
Now that I have nice new control arms on, time for tires....
I am not wealthy, so I can only spend $60-80 per tire. I was looking at: Yokohama Intermediate, Yokohama Avid H4, and Dunlop SP Sport A2 .. any others? Any opinions on those mentioned?

Kumho Ecsta. No personal experience but I've heard nothing but Glowing reccomendations about their grip, treadlife, and especially price.

Kumho 712's, been good for me the past year, 10k road miles and 1 DE with plenty of tread to go.
SFR 2.8 in process

I'd recommend the Yoko AVS-i as a good budget high performance tire. The sidewall is a little soft, but it has lots of grip. If I were you, I'd go with 225/50ZR15. The 60 series sidewall is way too tall. Also, with the lower profile size, you'll lower your ride height by 3/8" and get better acceleration. Your speedometer will read about 5% optimistic.
Keep in mind, if you drive agressively, the 160 wear rating shouldn't last much more than 10,000 miles.
I decided to go with Yoko AVS-I on my 951 in 245/45-ZR16 and 225/50-ZR16 for street tires. I like them because they stick very well and cost less than half what a set S-03's will cost. That way I can replace them twice as often!

215-60-15s are getting hard to find, Kumho do not make a performance tire in this size. BF Goodrich makes some Comp TA 215-60-15 tires that are H and Z rated.
Personnal I would go with the Yokohama AVS Intermediates, Tire Rack has em!

Definitely considering the Yoko AVS..
Regarding the Kumho 712s .. where do you see them in this size?? I checked tirerack.com and the largest in 15" was 205/55 .. ???

Don't know about a hi-perf aspect, but I had Yoko's om an Accord, and did like the handling ride, wet , and snowy weather characteristics of them .Don't recall which ones they were though. For what that's worth.

definitely do some searches on this topic, i posted something a while ago.
this is my verdict:
Yokohamas AVS dB @ 225/60-15 they were $70 @ tirerack.com (280.00 and 28 s/h). i paid 108.00 for mount, balance, recycle old ones. total: 420.00 +/- ... my reasoning for not getting the better Kumhos (woohoo!), Yokohamas, or Dunlops was, a.) i want to change out the suspension and which would ultimately change the axels, spindles, etc. (i prefer "late" offset at this point), and b.) cash!
unfortunately Steve is right! the 60s look really fat. handling is superb although i could feel that the sidewalls were like charmin tissue - soft, even before they were mounted. next time, 50 or 55 series might do it. no regrets though - these are good "cruising" tires with a more agressive tread pattern than the Intermediates (which are similar in price).
any recommendations for 16" for my early model offset, (aside from steve's "street" set-up @ 225/50-ZR16 & 245/45-ZR16, which look interesting) application: a/x ...?

Yup, RE-730s are a great choice, mine are 205/55-16 & 225/50-16 on 16x7&8 Fuchs (911 offset).
After 6 autocrosses last season, I'm hooked. Wouldn't switch to anything else except maybe dedicated A/X tires.

I am going to go with the Yoks for my 86 944. If I wasnt I would wait. I spoke to a rep for Yokahama and he said a new tire is comming out to fit the phone dials and it will perform better. the tire will be out for purchase this July.

Which Yokohama's?
I need tires RIGHT NOW. I want 993 wheels - those are like Ribs, right? The replica's Ribs bought -Mille Miglia II's aren't offered by Tirerack anymore and the only other place I know to look is Wheel Enhancement $$$$$!! approaching $2000.
So, I'm probably going to go with refinished phonedials (ugh!) and new stock sized rubber for awhile. I was debating Yoko AVS Intermediates vs. Pirelli P6000's. $72 vs $112 ea. BUT...
Does ANYONE know a remotely cheap but reliable place to get Rib's style wheel (Cup? 993?)?
