Default Wiper motor bit the bullet again, 996 part?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-RWD-Porsc...1dfda2&vxp=mtr

Found this little guy during my searches on ebay for a used wiper motor. Physical dimensions seem like a great fit. I think the three mounting bolts line up nearly perfectly (nothing a little drilling to the bracket wouldn't fix) and the shaft bolt and splines are the same or very similar to the 944 motor.

Electrically, for those of you who are familiar with this more than I, what would be needed to use this motor? I see that there are only 3 prongs, and 2 wires that go to the actual motor rather than 6 connections and 3 wires that go to the motor on the 944 unit.

Does anybody know the voltages for the 6 pin connector?

Heres another thread with the 944 wiring digram: LINK

The direction that the motor spins wouldn't be an issue, and I would be able to adjust the linkage so it could have the bottom of it's travel the same as before.

Well, I decided what the heck, for $30, I might as well put my engineering skills to work. Updates to follow after part arrives later this week hopefully. Any insight would be helpful!

So, I've had some time with the 996/986 motor now to try to fit it all together.
The good news is that my estimates were correct, the motor fits beautifully. Only
two places needed to be filed down in very minor ways to mount the motor to
the 944 wiper linkages. Here are some pictures showing the dimensions and
where I had to file to get it to fit.

Circuitry-wise, the 996/986 motor only has two speeds, and grounds through
the body of the motor. I have gotten the motor to run by wiring the low and
middle speeds on the stalk to the low and high speeds on the motor so far,
and wow is it smooth and quiet.

I'll be working on piecing together the rest
of the wiring this weekend hopefully! Updates to follow!

Looks great, I know my car could benefit too! But in reading your update, it seems as though you lose the intermittent function?

Potentially. I'm still working out the kinks in the wiring.

I'm actually curious to find out from someone who owns a 996/986 how many wiper speeds there are and how they can be accomplished...

I don't know that specific motor, but I would note that the usual failure in small motors is the armature, and if you can swap the armature into your original motor you might have a superior solution - I rewound (by hand) the armature in my 356 a long time ago to save the $35 for a new motor (that will tell you how long ago it was) - I didn't rebalance it so there is vibration when it runs

The intermittent function (on my 86 NA) goes through the G9 intermittent relay, then through the Low speed connection on the switch to the Low speed motor connection. Attached is a schematic of the circuit I put together -- for what it's worth.

@ZW 944

I'm trying to follow in your footsteps here. Do you remember how you ended up wiring the motor to the 6 prong connector piece?

I'd really appreciate your help.

Best

To follow up for others who are installing this same motor on the later cars, the order is as follows (from outside in);

Brown - Ground
Yellow - Intermittent
Blue - Park
Red - Medium
Green - Low

I am aware that all my wires are currently red, its what was on hand, but hopefully the labeling is easy enough to follow. The black wire (for high speed) is unused. Everything with the exception of high speed should work fine.

What a great thread!! Thanks for knowledge sharing. When I got rid of things to lose weight in my car, I somehow lost intermittent, now you've given me direction. Honestly I can't stand Porsche wiring schematics.

You would actually need both the blue park wire, and the intermittent yellow wire for intermittent function to work.
