I know if I were in this boat I would yank out the engine, clean up the engine bay, and let the car sit till I could put an engine (v8) back in.

I would love to just put the car in storage until I could properly fix it, but I don't have anywhere to store the car long-term that won't cost me an arm and a leg (oh the joys of living in Manhattan ). The car is currently at my mechanic's shop, but that's not really a permanent solution - sooner or later I will wear out my welcome there and really be up a creek!

options (what the economics dictate);

1. physics suggests the good core should go to a car with a blown motor.

2. when fires happen, the result is a bunch of parts and a ton of work. save the bits for a running car or sell them off to the next Jack down the line.

3. get LOUD; sell the motor/keep the car, then drop a good aluminum truck motor or LSx in there.

4. just junk it. seems heartless, but that's the sad fact of life. we spend *tens of thousands of $$$ to keep these buckets of bolts running 15~20 hp over the jap cars....

* (happens to people too).
I'm hoping to avoid option 4 (loss aversion, attachment to the car, I want to keep these cars around so I can show one to my kids some day, etc.). I would convert it to a track-only car/944spec car, but I can't support a race car at the moment (storage issues, no tow vehicle). If somebody had the resources/facility, it could also be a good fix-it-up-and-drive project. Aside from the plastic and rubber under the hood, the car needs nothing and is a lot of fun to drive.

There are times I miss the nimbleness of the 924/44/68 chassis, the 928 is a much heavier car and you feel that in every corner, but on long streatches of open road the 928 feels more planted and does a better job of absorbing road imperfections. And then when you plant your right foot in the carpet the noise of the 5.0L 32v is hard to beat.

Ian - glad to hear it. I'm still tempted to try and get a 928 as my next Porsche, I think they have a very cool look and I agree the v8 makes great sound.

Haha don't get me started on it...I can't begin to tell you what I would give for a 2 car garage of my own. There are a lot of good things about living in New York, but there is definitely also a lot of baggage that comes with the territory...

I finally got one of those. I'm about 30% done with it. I've got shelving and a huge work bench. It still needs more outlets, three more lights hung, and some paint. Oh, I also need to install the small metal lathe my grandpa passed to me.

that's a great restoration project and a fair price for the car. someone with a parts car could save this car without worry. if i had a parts car i would consider buying it. the car really looks great!

Nice, if you have the structure up, it sounds like your most of the way there. That's great you can incorporate your grandfather's lathe in too, I always thought tools that were passed down were really cool.

If we were closer together I'd buy it. I've always wanted a white 924 with no sunroof, and I even have a parts car.

The car was picked up today and is on its way to the new owner. Somewhat bittersweet to see it go, but I'm looking forward to the next Porsche.

Van - good to meet you this morning and thanks again for your help with the logistics in getting this deal done.

The new motor is half built and the car should be running TN roads by February....another one saved. (Ian, its the engine I picked up from you last year)

Thanks to you and Van for the help.
