options (what the economics dictate);
1. physics suggests the good core should go to a car with a blown motor.
2. when fires happen, the result is a bunch of parts and a ton of work. save the bits for a running car or sell them off to the next Jack down the line.
3. get LOUD; sell the motor/keep the car, then drop a good aluminum truck motor or LSx in there.
4. just junk it. seems heartless, but that's the sad fact of life. we spend *tens of thousands of $$$ to keep these buckets of bolts running 15~20 hp over the jap cars....
* (happens to people too).

Mike,
I am really enjoying the 928, well actually I am enjoying a pair of them. In a strange series of events I ended up with two 928s in my garage. Not sure if I am going to keep both, but for now I have a nice daily driver, and a possible track rat.
There are times I miss the nimbleness of the 924/44/68 chassis, the 928 is a much heavier car and you feel that in every corner, but on long streatches of open road the 928 feels more planted and does a better job of absorbing road imperfections. And then when you plant your right foot in the carpet the noise of the 5.0L 32v is hard to beat.

Haha don't get me started on it...I can't begin to tell you what I would give for a 2 car garage of my own. There are a lot of good things about living in New York, but there is definitely also a lot of baggage that comes with the territory...

I finally got one of those. I'm about 30% done with it. I've got shelving and a huge work bench. It still needs more outlets, three more lights hung, and some paint. Oh, I also need to install the small metal lathe my grandpa passed to me.

that's a great restoration project and a fair price for the car. someone with a parts car could save this car without worry. if i had a parts car i would consider buying it. the car really looks great!

The car was picked up today and is on its way to the new owner. Somewhat bittersweet to see it go, but I'm looking forward to the next Porsche.
Van - good to meet you this morning and thanks again for your help with the logistics in getting this deal done.
