Why don't we rebuild our own water pumps?

Nashio, I did think about an electric pump but I thought it would be too crazy. So you're saying to take an old water pump and gut out the impeller, shaft, bearing and pulley, and weld it shut with a stud for a regular roller bearing, then mount it to the engine as an empty water passage, then install an electric pump? Where does the Honda timing belt come in? Unless you also know of a Honda balance shaft belt, I'll just keep the two belts the same.
that should answer most of your questions within that thread. Also I decided to delete the balance shafts but I know user JNS made a protective plate from plastic to keep the two belts from contacting each other if the balance shaft belt should fail.

After getting a rebuild pump from Vertexauto, I will never go with the rebuild pump route again....
I think they accidentally drop the pump in a bucket of grey paint.
Laco pump for me this round.

But thanks for updating this thread.
Can you detail the seller/vendor of the LASO?
Was it shrink-wrapped or dated?
Too early yet to diagnose the failure point? ( Tension, Bearings, Seals, etc.)
Any funky gurgling sounds we hear on youtube water-pump vids a few weeks before death? Did the car just drop coolant all of a sudden or instead slowly overheat?

Exactly what all is involved in rebuilding an old pump? I have a Porsche one gathering dust for years, with good pulley, housing, metal impeller, etc., but it leaked out the weep hole. As I recall, the impeller shaft and bearing were press fit.
Where would you buy a high quality replacement bearing, etc., and how much would it cost?

From: one thousand, five hundred miles north of Ft. Lauderdale for the summer.
we don't do it because
1. Zim's sells them to us for pennies (if you send him your dead pump).....
2. we might as well just order a bunch of other stuff from Zim's at the same time.
3. the place is called 'Zim's' and he needs to make a dollar so he can sell us all the other stuff at those insanely low prices.
4. cuz we're too busy fixing all the other **** on the car.
5. cuz we're busy trying to get rid of the musty smell after the last rain.
6. too many other reasons to mention.
