video: balance shaft and timing belt tension
Does this look like the ballpark belt tension.
I bought that arnworx tool to check the tension of the belts i just installed. I took a video of me pushing on the belt with little force.

yes, but i don't have the factory tool. I went ahead and tried it. Sounds fine, no whining or spuddering. Was a b**** to line up both balance shafts and tension it and get the timing right.

Also, you should take it to a shop and get it tensioned with the tool. Doesn't cost much if it is weighing your mind.

Dealer in Richmond charges $159 for road balanced alignment and $159 for 944 belt tensioning with factory guage... Well worth it if Van's superb video doesn't cut it for ya. Welcome Tim.

I made another video today... I'm rebuilding an engine and thought I'd explain some of the innards:

yeah those vids are awesome. will be referencing them in the future. I wanted to replace all the seals, but stripped the cheesehead bolt head even with the right tool. Will have to eventually get an extractor set and then change the seals. Will probably do that at 2000 miles when i retension it.
Also, I wanted to take a picture of this (i'll take one soon). The guys I bought the car from f***'n welded the two oil lines together. They no kidding, welded where a fitting is supposed to go right on the threads to seal the oil lines together. Works, but just makes me laugh.
