Like a lot of you I just paid my yearly property taxes which around here is based on some imagined value of the vehicles you own. Its reasonable - I guess. But in my case the values are exactly upside-down...
the yearly Missouri state property tax on my pcars
77 911: $274.00 (sold@4000)
83 928: $122.15 (my estimated value $5000)
87 944 turbo: $52.06 (my estimated value $10000)
Just some interesting trivia. I'm wondering how this compares to other states/countries....Bruce

I think last year my personalized plates were $35 bucks and the tax was about $30. Once you get past the original sales tax the yearly tax here is very fair on cars over 10 years old. Also not having any interest payments and getting full coverage classic car insurance for $250 a year is'nt bad either. Other people can have the brand new cars, I enjoy what I drive and don't like giving my money to people in the government or bankiing industry to sit on there azz all day long. Sorry if I offended any bankers or pencil pushers, but I just have more respect for people that do some physical labor in their occcupations.

This concept is 100% foreign to me. I've never had to pay property tax on anything that wasn't land. I had no idea it even existed...
I've lived in Michigan, Georgia, and now Ohio, and never had to pay a "Property tax" for cars.

Same here, never heard of that before. But in MN, do have to pay for license plate registration which is a floating scale based on estimated value and age of the vehicle - which can be several hundred dollars for a new car.

Not an issue in Ontario though. $75.00 (depending on city/region) per year for a plate registration sticker. personalized or not. We do have to pay the HST (13%) everytime we buy a car used or new. On old cars it is based on an appriased value, on newer cars it is a black book (or red book..whatever). Change ownership ten times, pay tax ten times..sucks...

In NY, we have to pay sales tax to the state when we register a car (based on the sale value of the car, regardless of where it was purchased).
Our property (and school) taxes are based on land ownership.

However, on a car like my 83 944, it's peanuts. My CTS-V is another story.
