Default Callaway Turbo Build

Hello,

I know I haven't posted much here yet as a joined about a month ago. I am taking on rebuilding a callaway modified 1983 2.5L turboed motor. I have owned 2 944s. one an '84 and currently running an '83. I will share with you the post I put on 944online.com. Any advice, links, help, or tips would be greatly appreciated. I plan on documenting this build and posting as it comes along. So here's the post:

After about 8 months of going back and forth between a road trip or shipping, it is finally here. I completely disassembled 1983 Callaway Turbo motor. Not sure if anyone saw the ad for it up in Seattle. It is about 80% complete with all the vital parts. Has the turbo, exhaust manifold, wastegate, iron sleeved block, modified head, FPR, cam tower, etc.

This will no doubt be a big undertaking for me. I have never rebuilt an engine before but have always wanted to. This is a dream scenario coming true. Ever since hearing about the callaway, I've wanted one. To buy one outright would be anywhere from $10k-who knows what. And even harder to find one.

The guy I bought this from has been a big help so far. He has outlined a more modern and more powerful setup that I will be applying to this motor. Instead of a 5th injector, I will be running larger injectors with an aftermarket fuel management. Using a turbo intercooler and a full 3" exhaust. The stock is 280hp and with these adjustments, I can run anywhere between 300-380hp. I doubt I'll push it past 350 as to not stress the motor to its capacity.

This will be a slow and long process as I want to do everything right. I am reaching out to you guys for any advice, knowledge and help you are willing to provide.
My first step is to research, research, and come up with a plan before putting any more money into it.
I am located in the S.F. Bay Area if anyone can recommend machine shops and cleaning shops.

And now some Pics! (Not everything shown. Have like 4 other boxes full of stuff)
Oh and you might notice those Koni Yellows.... Mo30 Option Koni Yellows I didn't know I was getting!

+1 !
Being single is the only way I get to 'play with my toys' ! (Just got myself some original 16" Fuchs from an '82 911 SC for my '83 NA)
Any pics of the car?

Yes I live in an apartment. block is sitting in the living room covered by a tarp. Looks like **** now, but once its cleaned and on a stand I think it will look pretty cool in the living room.

1st order of business is prepping everything to send to a cleaner. Disassembling the block and head currently. I've contacted a place in Martinez to get everything hot tank cleaned and the crank checked for cracks. Hoping to get that taken care of before thanksgiving and to know if this build is even possible. Upon visual inspection, everything looks good. Water pump was dented, but Ill be using a NEW one anyway.

Well as James asked, here are a few pics of the car this baby will be going into. Its a 1983 with factory LSD and manual steering and sunroof. The car has a 924 turbo hood which will be prefect for where the callaway turbo sits. The suspension and brakes are off of a 86' Turbo. Has a turbo rear valance and is fitted with 17" Cup II Wheels with 255 in rear and 215 in front.

I don't recall what they did to the heads at Callaway, but you might look into using a standard 951 head. They have better valves and the exhaust ports are ceramic lined, which means more heat energy is retained in the gases which means your turbo would spool even faster!
