8, 10, 12 cylinders just turns the damn car exotic....
now, obviously, guys run the most hideously obnoxious exhausts with their hot rod corvette engines.
but, it doesn't have to be that way.....
and the ideal sized pipe for a 944 is 2.25".... 2.5" pipe (absolute max) is already very big.

So the best route is
-remove the cat
-add a SLP resonator
-add a borla xr-1
?
I have a newish magnaflow cat on right now. Excuse my ignorance but does the resonator replace the cat or is it possible to have cat/resonator/muffler?

The S2 came stock with a Cat/Res/Muffler. If your deleting the cat then replace with a resonator or glass pack.

OK sounds like I need to add the resonator.
and a magnaflow or borla at the back.
Damm, I was hoping not to have to redo the whole exhaust.
Anyone know what the rear muffler looks like inside? I want to know how restictive it is.

Burning Brakes
I had Kyle's old set up,bursch and test pipe, and didn't like the sound. I bought a cat back that had a stock resonator and it sounds much better. Got rid of most the drone, and rasp.

i've experimented with different combinations, and from my own experience i would say that the resonator is important to have
in there whether you are running a cat or not. my preference is to run no cat, but that's mostly because where i live there's no
emmisions or visual inspection after the car reaches 15 years old.
correct.
first, the SLP unit has no restriction.... it's a completely hollow pipe with nothing more than a big bulge in the middle...
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SL...3919/?rtype=10
the gas passes through smoothly, while the raspy four cylinder engine's sound pulses are effectively cleaned up in the echo chamber.... but you need a larger glasspack muffler than the Hooker Maxflow (top photo) shown, but that's what you're looking at with either the Hooker, Borla or Magnaflow mufflers; straight pipe with very low restriction save for the turbulence that's created via the holes for the sound to go through.
if you go to Magnaflow's website
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/02muffler.asp
you'll see this 18" X 8"X 5"..... for 2 1/4" pipe
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=10414
or 2.5" pipe
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...=main&id=10415
that's about the correct sized glasspack you want to be stuffing back there.
if you want a freakishly nasty sound (but very loud at wot), go with the 14"....
i'm running a 22" !! my exhaust sounds so good at 3000~3400 rpm on the highway,
that i often prefer it to playing the music.
NO CAT for the win.

Fit some really narrow tires on the front of the 944, chop the wheel wells out about 5" in either direction, drysump the Ford motor and drop it a bit...chop the firewall back about a foot...no problem

A high flow cat or resonator will help a lot with the raspy sound. I recently put on a Walker Dynomax muffler on my '86 N/A. Already had MSDS headers, high flow cat with 3" pipe from the collector to the muffler. Sounds very nice, not "way to loud" or raspy.
