My A/C delete alternator bracket (which I bought from Broadfoot Racing several years ago) broke at the track last weekend, so I am looking for a stronger alternative. One of the options I am considering is the one sold by FastGuys. Searching the list archives, it looks like this unit has been around for at least a couple of years now, so I am curious to know if anyone has had any problems with it. In addition to it's really light weight, the fact that it only uses 3 bolts instead of the usual 4 is appealing, since the omitted 4th bolt is a PITA to get to without removing the turbo, and was the reason I was not able to remove my current bracket for a makeshift repair last weekend. OTOH, if there any reliablity consequences to that, the benefit is moot. I'm also curious to know how prevalent these bracket (any brand) failures are in general. The piece I had looked pretty stout, so it was quite a surprise when it failed.

Hi, i have that bracket since 6 month and so far no down side. Like you, I did not found anyone using it before I buy it, I gave it a try and I am still happy with it.

It's a bit heavier though...not a huge amount, maybe 3 or 4 lbs but every bit counts...
Racer guys - howabout getting a piece of aluminum plate in maybe 1/8 or 3/16" and cutting it to the shape of the bracket and stacking it on there under or above the bracket? It would help with any belt deflection and when bolted down might be an additional bracing. You could bolt it together and weld the seams once its all lined up...still wouldn't weigh very much.

Just to give you another option:

I've had no problems with it, except that raising the alternator makes it hit the airbox and raise it. Not a problem with a cone filter.

I've used 3 different AC delete brackets, factory is the best, period. I went through 5 alternators, the holes in the aftermarket wallowed out allowing the alternator to move. Since changing to the factory I've had zero issues.
If it's 3-4 pounds extra, it's worth every ounce.

Thanks to everyone for all of your inputs. The factory bracket was definitely on my list of options and is now at the top. Forgive me Olli, but that bracket looks too much like what failed on me last weekend. Given unlimited time to balance lighter weight and reliability, I'm still intrigued by other options, but losing track time over such a silly failure has me retreating to a more conservative configuration.

$150 and I will make you one out of steel plate that WILL NOT FAIL ever... unless it rusts in half that is. It will not weigh 3 lbs though.
Have plasma table, will cut.

BTW, I've run a 90 minute enduro with no alternator. And on a small Oddessey (sp?) battery.
If you have trouble at the track, just put it on a charger in between sessions and run with no alternator.
Now if you lose the voltage regulator, well that only last about 2 laps at the Glen before shoving 20+ volts into the battery causes it to overheat, burn out an IQ3 data logger and eventually the battery starts to smoke causing you to get out of the car faster than you ever imagined you could .....

milodorr,
Do you have a picture of the bracket failure? I have a similar AC delete bracket that I've not yet installed, and I'm curious what part of yours broke and how.
thanks!
