Question Is my fuel door fake?

It was just pointed out to me that my fuel door is plastic. What's up with that? The individual owned an 84 944 since new (sold it in the 90s).

Do I need to get pics or is this a known replacement part?

I have the locking gascap, and the 'Oil Ok?' flap (love it!).

So I get an email asking about timing belt re-tensioning, but you post THIS question regarding the fuel door??

BTW, what you put in your e-mail is on the money, so yes... do the retension just how you wrote it..

I have yet to see a non-plastic piece there.

My 931 was metal. 951/968 are plastic. Don't remember on the 924S, probably plastic.

My '84 ROW car has a metal flap - looks like they updated it for the later models.

All the 85.5 and later cars I have seen have plastic fuel filler doors. Mine's plastic and has the original stickers still on the inside.

Based on my 2 later cars and the 3 early cars I have owned as either drivers or part cars I would agreee with the above statement.

Now if this thread keeps on like many on here someone will soon chime in they are working on making carbon fiber ones. Several people will get in line for the item. Then slowly the idea will die out and we will move on to something else.

I don't think that the fuel door weighs more than a pound...but weight savings is weight savings (you know what's lighter than a CF fuel door? No fuel door!)

My early car (albeit at the end of the run) has a plastic door. I have seen metal on earlier ones.
