944s cylinder wall damage - what to do??

I recently had the oil feed tube to my chain tensioner burst on my 944s. This caused the chain to snap but i have been fortunate in having no damage to my head. This is getting refurbished before re-fitting. I have however discovered some severe scoring to my cylinder walls which i would be very grateful for some advice on.
I have started the search for a new block. The car ran fine before the chain break, the major score does finish well below the top of the cylinder. Should i have a sleeve put in or find a new block?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Joe

new block, try searching junk yards, i find 944's in em all the time cause of severe body damage, but engine is fine.
could always spend a butt load and get the block you have relined

the damage to the cylinder wall in the first picture is a tell tale sign that the coating on your piston is worn off, ask me how i know. i suggest not re-using the pistons that you have. if you have a hard time finding a block and before considering sleeving, i suggest you get the block nickasil coated. nickasil A LOT more durable than alusil and it has good heat tranfer properties, this also means getting new pistons anyway http://www.928motorsports.com/services/uschrome.php

Thanks for your feedback. Engine has 130000 miles on it! I have put 30000 on personally! Body is good and has lovely cream interior so reluctant to scrap! I know of 2 complete engines for sale but as they are complete I would be unsure of cylinder wall condition! If I can use any late block then I will search for one! Time to remove the rest of my remaining engine me thinks!! If I remove pistons will their condition be obvious?

I had the same thing happen to me and bought a used block form a supposedly reputable rennlister. Long story short- the block had been damaged and honed and when we put her back together, it had piston slap from the very start. Still, if you are going with another used block, be sure to use the pistons that have been in that block. After all my wasted time and effort, we then bought a used motor that we saw and heard; refreshed the bearings and rebuilt her and dropped it in. So far, 50k miles later, she is still pulling hard.

Lot of choices;
Do use your old pistons, have coated and sleeve. Did that on my 951 incl resurface deck for under $1k
Send to US Chrome and have reconditioned and coated, new pistons and rings
Have a good shop bore it over and use proper pistons and rings for alusil set up
Go nuts and have bored totally out and go Darvon steel steel bores with deck plate new pistons etc. Might as well go BIG if do that one.
Did I forget any?

If it was running well as you said and the compressions were good, you can just have a light hone & AN30 lap to remove the scratches. Swain coat the piston skirts and gap new rings to match, GTG. imo the mileage you have done is not high enough to warrant a rebuild, unless that is you have money to burn.
