That looks really nice, what did you use for the shift boot?

I love that red stitching that seems to be getting more and more popular. I just ordered the stuff to do that thrust bearing modification, brilliant idea.

thank you for the links and the info! seems like a better repair than a bolt and washer setup.

Angle grind the weld off of the pivot pin. With enough removed and the surface flat, you should be able to knock the pin out with a hammer and are left with an M10 hole in the shifter. Reinstall the shifter, insert the M10 bolt through the shifter, and then follow with washer, thrust bearing, washer, shifter rod, washer, thrust bearing, washer. I added a little grease on both sides of the thrust bearings. Install lock nut and tighten the nut just enough to snug everything up. Don't over-tighten, no need to and the nylon lock nut won't back out.
Years ago I did this except welded in a slightly larger piece of steel stock to the lever and drilled out the linkage rod to match, fixed the problem nicely. Seems to be wearing a bit again so I might do your mod now...

Might find a screw that doesn't have threads cut on it until the end (so nothing binds on the shift rod).
