I would also recommend the sway bar bracket stiffeners, for $40 it really helps keep the sways locked in place. The stock bracket leaves a lot to be desired and can flex very easily under a good load.

Turbo struts can't be opened up to replace the insert. They must be cut apart. I believe XSChop made some Turbo strut housings that could be used with inserts.

someone posted a while back that some VW (i think beetle?) cars torsion bars have the same part number as the 944 cars and a site listed it cheaper for the rear 30mm torsion bars for the vw. anyone remember it?

I've seen those brackets snap like twigs, many, many times...

There are many VW sites, Moore parts, CIP1, CB performance, pacific customs all sell torsions. You can also check thesamba, and shoptalkforums for used.

I got Sway a Way 30mm bars with <2000 miles on them for 100.00 used on shoptalkforums.

I didn't lower mine, I just left it stock.

But on the front I put in new steel control arms, ball joints, bushings and strut inserts for about $250 total. Add another $200 for an alignment. Handles like a new car now.

Awh crap, they came in the box today and I just read this. Where can I get those strut housings? I can't find them

I am your age and I went with Koni inserts and 200lb Weltmeister springs w/ the spacers. I bought the springs on ebay (used) for ~$50 and I waited for paragon to have a Koni special.

Justin, Yup this is what I'm ending up doing as well. Sway bars will be someday in the near future as well. Lot's of unfinished projects first though.

All of this is great advise. I would first recommend the turbo sways with good rubber on them. And keep your eyes open here and in your local Porsche club. I got my turbo sways, weltmaster lowering springs, strut brace etc all for free.

So I've been thinking- on the one hand, everyone is saying that coil-overs are too expensive and to stick with just upgrading the current setup. I've been looking at upgrading my suspension as well on my 951. So I did the math - current prices on Paragon, a new set of Koni Sports all around, new springs, and new torsion bars is $972. But then, their price on a 1 Koni cup coilover kit is "only" $1373.

So basically, isn't this just basically an extra 400 bucks that you're paying to not have to ever deal with indexing the torsion bars? That's kind of worth it, isn't it?

i did the same evaluation and decided it was worth it. future adjustments, spring rate changes, and repairs will be much easier. with coilovers, there is no preload on the suspension when the car is in the air so any task that involves the suspension is simplified.

Doesn't the Koni Cup Kit still require the use of the torsion bars? I always thought the rear coilover on that kit was only suitable as a helper.
