Does it ever ends???
Replaced the transaxle in Dec. timing belts/water pump in Jan. I just replaced the ignition switch over the weekend, went to drive it this morning and the door handle on the driver side stopped working, the key unlocks the door but pulling the lever wont do a thing, drove for about a mile and the c-clip that holdsthe shifter lever to the linkage broke, replaced it with whatever I could find at closest hardware store and now the Tach, it was working fine earlier and then after coming out of the hardware store the damn thing goes to 0 at idle, the car runs fine but the tach needle goes to 0 at idle, any ideas?

The car is what 25 years old? No it does not end. Well it does when you sell the car or replace every last part on it.
what year car?
I know the early cars have a plug under the dash that reads the tach signal from DME harness. Could be a bad connection since the car still runs.
Either a bad gage or bad wiring to the gage.

that's it? all common. at least you don't have coolant in your oil like i do. short answer, no, it doesn't end. check your grounds--just found my main neg battery lead heavily corroded on the block end and went up about 10 inches (replaced), several split wires were also found during that exam.

There a plenty of very reliable high mileage examples out there.
These cars ru just fine when taken care of.
The real problem is that many people that once the cars started to depreciate (just like any high end car) people not willing to spend on maintaining them bought them up, neglected them and passed them off even cheaper to the next guy who thought he could have a cheap Porsche. Combine that with the large number produced and that explains the current value. Honestly, there is not much from the 80s worth much yet in any brand.
Catch these cars up on their maintenance and they will treat you very well.
Most of the complaints I see here are people that bought rough examples. Cars that were not taken car of, or have sat for a very long time. ANY 25 year old car will need some love at that point. Try looking at a 25 year old Chevy or Dodge that has not been maintained

the finger pointing, swearing and innuendo starts w/ o d u r a n d i n a....
sorry for your troubles...
i have put 80 k miles on my 968... cheapest car i have ever driven for 80 k miles. total; 157 k miles....
in all, about $3.6 k in scheduled maintenance and repairs during that time.
solution; cut your losses and get a 968.
anyway, let's go racing !

I picked mine up as a total basket case. Once I fixed the neglected parts it has been 100% reliable for the last several years, including track time!

my '87 944S was the same way. 117 k mies by late '94. i think that's the way they like to be driven.
my 968 has 157 k on the clock and runs perfect. no power loss. no oil burning.
almost sad the engine is going in a track car in the next 90 days.

Just had PPI's done in Florida and California within the last 7 days and got these results. Keep in mind BOTH sellers said their cars were perfect and needed nothing. The Florida car needed $12k+ in repairs including the top end valve job and the Cali car needed $5k in repairs BEFORE putting it on a lift and looking at the engine! I stopped that PPI to minimize my cost...or loss. What happened to honesty or do these people really believe their 911 with non-working everything is perfect??? Just venting.
what you can say about any P-car, you can say about any P-car...
overall, the cars are very good.... the parts often leave much to be desired.
