Fortunatly most of my experince have been on bringing the car back to OEM spec...but once the snow melts I am likely replacing some bearings in the transmission.

All part of the ownership experiance...My Ducati cost as much to keep going and it was only a few years old..and would stall when at idle...ran great on the track tho..I would never recomend a Porsche as an "A" car..but they sure are fun to drive when everything works!

Your average car loses 15% of value first year then 8% a year thereafter. my car is mostly done deprecating. the cost to drive is repairs and parts. pick which works for you.

I'd disagree that it can't be your "A" car. Many many people daily drive these just fine. There is a reason most of these cars have hundreds of thousands of miles on them.......because they ran.....reliably!!

I know at lease a dozen guys here locally that daily drive old Porsches with no more issue than new cars. (and we are not talking teenagers with no other choice)

The issues is really neglected cars, period. Cars people just cheap out on and don't fix or maintain them properly.

I just ment that as the cars get older things pop up and it is nice to have a second car to get you around to keep the 944 going.

Now if you had a garage like yours then a Porsche could definatly be the "A" car...pick one any one

Don't get me wrong..I think having a backup is always nice.

Obviously as they get older some things are going to get older and need more attention, but........in most cases when you replace that 25 year old 150k part....you shoul din theory get another 25 years and 150k or more out of it if it's an updated part.

i've put 13 thousand miles on my 968 since thanksgiving.

that includes 9 transcons.


1. Boston to Miami.

2. Miami to Indianapolis.

3. Indianapolis to Boston.

4. Boston to Indianapolis.

5. Indianapolis to Miami.

6. Miami to New york.

7. New york to Indianapolis.

8. Indianapolis to Greensboro, NC.

9. Greensboro, NC to New York.


i'm at 157 k miles.

i run the oil for about 12 k miles between changes.... still close to zero oil burning and tons of power.

These cars should be driven!

I was participating in an online reliability study that sends me emails to remind me to update my data every 3-6 months. Here is what I realized on the last update.

From about April to September I put 9,000 miles on my 928S4 and only 800 miles on my Cayenne Turbo. (Cayenne sees most of its miles in the winter) not sure how many on the 951.

This is the stuff I like to hear. I bought mine with a bad ODO that was 40k less than actual mileage (disclosed, not corrected), was in good shape with lots of recent maintenance, I did a few other things to it, and aside from a leaking oil pan gasket and coolant somewhere, the thing has become all but a daily driver for me. I've decided to run the wheels off it, especially with the rather good mileage it gets. Bulletproof reliable (knock on plastic) lately. This is a driver's car and will see a LOT of road for me. Sure it needs a lot of things, but they're small and don't prevent me getting to work with a big grin on my face every day.

summer/patriots season/holidays in Mass. work in Mass is slow.... work off and on in New York/Midwest area. winter residence in Florida where unfortunately, i only managed to get 7 weeks in this winter (got 17 weeks last winter).... i mostly prefer to avoid flying/TSA hassles, although i did plenty last fall. i really like having my car when i travel, especially since i usually stay in the area i travel to for at least a couple of weeks to a month..... i might be going to work in Charleston, SC at the end of this month/early April, and all the traveling will cease... in any event, this engine has done it's thing. it's coming out of my car and going in a 944 in the next 90 days.
