hi, thought I saw a thread here recently on how to remove the key blank from a 944 key set? Albeit haven't been able to find the thread: so here goes. I have recently pursched both a 89na and a 89 944S2 and was wondering how to revive the existing keys by keeping the pre-exsisting keys and add/join them to new lighted heads - of which I have already bought. Any help would be greatly appreciated as my local locksmith is no more and the local dealership help was "as I best recall, u gots to wiggle it one way or another to get it out. But beats me how. I suggest a vice." thanks in advance.

It's pretty straight forward if you disassemble the key head. Are the old keys in lighted heads as well? Or are they the old VW style? I didn't use any instructions when I switched mine and found it to be pretty easy.

One you have the key head seperated (small flathead screwdriver or similar in the notch on the side of the key) there's a small sprung plunger that must be withdrawn to pull the steel piece out. Insertion only requires pushing the new blank in.
