i have no idea about how possible it would be and i am not saying i am going to try and make one. i was just wounding if any one has ever thought of a way to get rid of that problem **** WP that we all have now

i bet someone could CNC an adapter plate that would let you run a in-line pump

Don't get excited! It's not for a 944. Just an example that it is probably doable if you go that route and if someone is willing to put the effort in for an adapter plate. The electric pump motors available definitely have the capacity and are reliable.

i know i would buy one and i am sure most plp would want one

how do the water pumps differ with the 944 models or are they the same

here some pics for brain storming

what could you do with the timing belt pulley get rid of it or have a roller that you could replace the bearing in

Make a plate that has input/output fittings going to externally mounted pump. Timing belt pulley would just be a free-wheeling idler in the same spot.

A good size pump could mount where the PS reservoir normally goes, or anywhere else really.

so if it seems so doable why hasn't any body tried to make one?

it would free up the revs a bit.... not much or even noticeable but couldn't hurt

Seems like all manufacturers are moving to electric water pumps and steering now.

So if you use this, what happens to the belt? Just get a smaller one?

Which OEMs are using electric pumps? I would go with an OEM over a aftermarket brand.

going by that link i posted they guy says that the 113 tooth Honda belt fits with out the water pump pulley.

since there was no pics or real data i thought i would poke around a but and see if he was just talking out his bum

so here is a link so a belt site that as dimensions of the belt in question http://www.dzbelt.com/?m=product&page=5

honda part number is 113RU240
944 part number is 119RU250

the honda belt is 1 mm less in width then the 944 belt. what would this difference result in?

My BMW has one

They've been using electric water pumps on the 3 series since 2006 I think.

Very interesting concept. Any idea if that link to the one the guy fabricated for his 951 would work for a regular 944 NA?

951/944NA waterpumps and blocks are identical, so I don't see why not.

This is very interesting, I was wondering about changing the timing belt layout and this would make sense. Has any body seen the linked kit installed?
Don't want to re invent the wheel but if people are interested we could look at it.
