Oil cooler upgrade
I've decided to upgrade my oil cooler... I have a stock 951 cooler on there now, but at my last track day, saw oil temps of at least 260 (it was November, so it was cool out, but the temp sensor is in the oil pan).
Anyhow, I thought some guys would like to see what I'm doing.
Pic 1 - the cooler I currently have
Pic 2 - comparison between Setrab 72 row, RX7 and 951 oil coolers
Pic 3 - Setrab 72 row cooler balanced in front of radiator

Looks a good upgrade Van. Be nice to see what temps you get on a similar day?

just and FYI i've got a whole intercooler in front of my radiator and didn't notice much of a temp increase. just sat on 180 degrees at times on real hot days it'll hit 200.

Intercooler will block the radiator fins but not divert anywhere as much hot air to it as an oil cooler. SFR mounts the Intercooler in front of the radiator and the oil cooler where the Intercooler was, I always thought that was an ideal solution. The only thing I would be concerned about is if that would put a lot of strain on the oil pump, it's a long way vertical to pump that oil.

Well... I guess we'll have to see. I can say that the water temp has been spot on... and, once I took the bumper off, I found that about 25% of the radiator's fins were bent and it was *very* dirty. So I've straightened the fins and pressure washed it.

This shouldn't be a problem since is hooks up to the factory cooler locations. Once the system has oil in it, the back pressure is dependent on the net elevation change (ft of head) and line friction. There will be some additional line friction due to a longer hose required to reach the opposite side fitting, but the larger core may have less loss than the factory part. Overall, the system may have less back pressure than a factory setup or it may have more, but it should be close enough to not be a concern.

Not to subvert your efforts Van but here's a pic of what we did with a 993 cooler. Uses same fittings too. Definitely more expensive than your solution though. Just an alternative.

Haven't got that far yet Van. All these things will be revealed over the coming months.

could use some paint, but it works great. it will be burning hot on the input side and cool to the touch on output.
my whole front end is custom but i had one mounted before to the sheetmetal crossmember that is behind the bumper.
