LS swap in works

LS swap in works
well today i had a buddy come over and we snaked a camera in to spark plug holes and checked the cyalnders and they are shot on two cylanders...
So i have decided to pull the motor and all the stuff and drop in the V8.
I have seen the RH kit they offer but alot of it i dont need or can make myself.
Is there a list of places i can get the parts i need seperatly to cut the cost of the project down? This is going into a 87 924S.
The 924S is an auto but will be recieveing a manual conversion over at the same time as well as all new suspension and bushing and all new brakes and rotors and possibly a big brake upgrade.
Just curiouse.. has anyone put the G50 porsche trans into the 924S/944?
sorry lots of questions and stuff going on so any and all links and ideas to send my way on this project and my plans would be FANTASTIC!
Thanks guys

Stay away from RH. Eric at Texas Performance Concepts has some nice items. Xchop on these forums makes some nice parts as well.
Good luck, it will be a fun car when finished.

is there a link or way to contact to get prices?
I think it will def. Be a fun car when done.
Also i forgot to mention
Which should i do? The 5.3L Truck motor or the 5.3 Aluminum HO motor.. or try to find a 5.7 LS1... i mean they are all the same blocks and only diff. is the crank and stroke .. i figure if i can get the LS heads and use the 5.3L block and do some minor swaps i should be just fine...

I got the core conversion parts from Xchop and done the conversion myself, a few months back he sold a bunch of conversion parts (motor mount uprights, BH adapter, Pilot Bearing + adapter, spacers). I Collected all conversion parts while I read through the 944 Hybrids forum, there is tons information on the conversion and is very helpful when trouble shooting. You could also get a copy of the conversion manual, although most of the content is covered on the forum I got some good info form the manual.
The key to keeping the cost down is to do the work your self and sourcing a complete motor, I spent most of my money rebuilding an LS6 short block and buying all the accessories Look for a complete motor with all accessories, if you go LS1/LS6, look for one from a Camero/Firebird motor with low miles, most conversions are based on F body accessory's.
With regards to transmission, I would second sticking with a 944 Turbo's transmission, I run a 968 6 speed and its not ideal for such a high torque motor.
You also need to pay attention to suspension and brakes, you want to make sure you can stop 350 + hp of LSx.

That car has got to be a BEAST. We'll have to meet up when the white fluffy crap has disappeared...got to see the final results!
Cheers, Rick

Yep, the car is very quick, I'm running a 575,585 lift cam with a power band from 3000 to 6800 RPM (redline). Can't wait to get it back on the road in the summer!!

I don't think you want to run LS1 heads on a 5.3L engine from what I can find (at least at this point in my research). I think it drops the compression too much. I picked up an L33 5.3L for my conversion, which is an all aluminum block/heads. Put in the LS1 cam and LS1 intake and go. If you want the L33, you need to find a motor out of an 05-08 1500 Silverado with Vin code B. Vin code T (LM7) is the iron block 5.3L which is a lot more plentiful. They typically demand a little more money than the iron block LM7, but if you look you can find them cheap. I picked up my motor with 140k miles on it for $600, and the internals look fantastic. It will still get rod bearings/headgaskets before it goes in. Still need to find F body accessories to bolt on. Ordered my kit from Eric at TPC, he is great to work with. Just google Texas Performance Concepts and his pricing and kit is on the website. Keep in mind you will have a lot of other nickle and dime expenses, but that will at least get you started.

Any thread I've read where someone has dealt with TPC is MORE than pleased. The way these kits are going, it will be almost plug and play!
