Talking Our 924 Project

A Project my dad started years back that never got finished.

What we've got to play with so far:
- 1981 Porsche 924 5 speed.
- Toyota SC14 Supercharger
- Custom modified intake manifold
- Larger throttle body
- spare 924 2L Long block
- KalMaker (from the top of my head i think it's just an EFI but might be an EMS, if It's an EFI we'll buy an EMS)
- 72lb injectors or stock 951 injectors

The Plan:
A street driven 200hp 924. maybe 100 hp gain?

The paint faded so a full respray will be done. Most of the car is sanded already (Guards Red)
Porting & polishing the head
We'll also probably buy an Intercooler to keep the charged air cooler
and possibly a 2.5" exhaust.

I'll get pictures of the car another day, It has been owned by Dad for over 20 years.

I took the head off the engine on the stand and had a look what we had to work with. The head had been unbolted before hence the screwdriver sticking out. Already by the looks of things, the head intake can be improved from looking at the port vs valve sizes.

I don't see a 100hp gain, but have at it--the 924 2.0 needs some love!

I'm not familiar with that blower. Is there any info around in it? Like what vfm potential at what rpm?

I'm sure it will come out great after watching your turbo thread!!

There's not to much i can find on it. All i know is that it came off a Toyota 1G-GZE 2L engine. In 1 RPM it moves 1400cc (1.4L) of air and the engine redlined at 7500 rpm.

We should be able to push this supercharger between 10-15 psi but ran on E85

This build will probably take longer then the 951 took since that was my daily and this was dads daily until he got a company car with the previous job and now train to work with the new job.

A big valve head and euro pistons really woke up my 1980 924. They are such great cars.

What size valves did you go?

I'll probably won't change valves or anything since this is more of a budget build unlike my last.

I could be the Chris White of 924 engine builders. I figure the 924 market could supply me with at least one or two good paying customers per decade.

Here are the details on the head work. FYI the complete headwork was $1000 back in 2005, so cheap compared to 951 stuff. I agree, screw the budget and go crazy.

All head work was done by European Motorworks (formerly Eurorace), they are at:

1 800 722 8678
13224 Prairie Avenue
Hawthorne, California, U.S.A. 90250

The headwork involved:

44mm Stainless Steel Intake Valves
35mm Stainless Steel Exhaust Valves
Port and Polish
Special Racing Guides
RaceSport Valve Springs and Retainers
Stage I cam 233x470

A slight update, the KalMaker is an after market ems that's a replacement computer for the GM computer (plug and play) The reason we're using this system is that the older GM engines are speed density type systems and parts are quite easy to find and also good priced and it would make a good EMS for a supercharged motor.

We've port matched and polished the head and intake (pictures soon) and we've built a tool to extract the valves from the head but haven't gotten around doing so yet.
