anyone comment on this?

I'm doing this now and have just about finished the reflector cleanup and replacement (kit from 944Online)

I got the LEDs as well but I am interested to see whether I should just clean up the existing bulbs and see how it goes with the new reflector material?

If the LEDs are too bright and can't be dimmed that would possibly be the opposite problem!

I like the charm of the dimmer setting but would still like to be able to tune the level.

The 944Online kit also comes with blue reflector material which might be a good solve if the LEDs are too bright with the silver.

Here are some pics of the job...

you can see the PO had already done the aluminium foil fix...

took some polishing with acetone/nail polish and a sock to clean em all up...

This is what the original material reflective paint on the clear lens probably looks like...

all clean.

The reflective replacement kit and bulbs...

old bulbs

new ones in

I've not finished because I want to do the testing before I choose blue vs silver and old bulbs vs leds...

Try the LEDs out, see if they do dim! I haven't bought the leds yet and would be curious if they DO dim. I've heard some people say they do

I have just done the first reconnect of the system - and its daylight but I don't think they dim - and they don't work as replacements in the turn indicators or high beam - which are purple backed/housings in my S2 - 0.36 instead of 1.2 on the plastic.

They do work on hb and turn, I have them in mine. Make sure they are fitted correctly. The dimmer does work but not as before, it operates in a very small range and is much more sensitive in that range.

Two things to remember about LEDs:

1. You must fit them the correct way, if they don't work one way reverse them.

2. To dim them correctly you need to fit a special dimmer box in the circuit. They don't dim correctly by trimming the voltage which is what our cars dimmer circuit does.

They basicly dont with out that special box, I didn't mind it on my led converted 924s but i could see it being annoying on the late dash.

I still used normal bulbs in the Oil pressure/low fuel/high beam/low voltage spots as they were way to bright and it would cause wierdness. The DME uses the low voltage bulb to determine the alternator output so the car wouldn't start charging until rev'd to 1300rpm with an LED in the low voltage spot. Also the low fuel light didn't seem to come on at the same time as it used too, so i switched back.

Based on this list from THIS THREAD:

* 74-xHP Wedge Base LED Bulb (10 needed) #This is for speedo, rpm, oil, volt, clock, and centerconsole#
* B8.5D Instrument Cluster LED Bulb (7 needed) #This is for left gauge# I would get 3+ more cus they are pretty easy to break when putting them in.
* WLED 6-LED Bulb (1 needed) #This is ONLY for the battery light in the dash#
* 3022-x4 LED Festoon Bulb (1 needed) #This is for the glovebox#
* 4211 LED Festoon Bulb (2 needed) #This is for the luggagelight in the back and domelight#
... Arominus, or anybody for that matter, if I keep the original bulbs for turn-signal, high-beam, all warning lights, which of these from the list would I NOT need from superbrightleds.com?

you wouldn't need the wled 6-led at all (thats the low voltage warning light).

I would double check the b8.5's for the left cluster... I can't remember it they were used for the backlighting in that one. You may still need a few, but you won't need as many. I also broke a few when installing.

Ok, thank you. How many exactly are used for lighting everything but the warning lights, like the mpg and fuel, on the left side?

Yup. Mine comes on with about 4 gallons left so I rarely ever see it and for the longest time I didn't even know if it worked! The gauge stops moving long before you get to it.

When you have the cluster out use plastic polish on both sides of the clear lens. Plus clean all the grounding points when your there, this will make a big diffrenace. I used stock bulbs and it works.
Next time I have the cluster out (not soon I hope) I will look at the light tracks.
