Any idea if this will work in late model cars? My instrument lights need to be replaced and this would be a great way to do it. Oh...one more thing....didn't see it mentioned...but will the instrument dimmer switch still work?

The dimmer switch probably works still, but not enough to lower the intensity noticeably.

In my opinion, the only way to go with the later cars are these LED light bars by FlamingEye (he is a RL member also). I have the first generation of these lights installed on my '87 for the last 3 or 4 years and they are awesome. They have only gotten better since then (easier to hookup). They are expensive..but in my opinion the best solution to the dim dash lights on the later cars. The way i see it is ill never have to mess around with the gauge lighting ever again.

JagEng.com sells something similar and its cheaper, but im not sure how it compares to the FlamingEye one.

Hey Vaughn, Long time no talk... How many bulbs will it take to do your entire cluster? Of each bulb, I want to order them and put them in my dads 924S... Shoot me a PM or e-mail when ya get a chance... I have some interesting info for ya.

Ninefofo, if you have any bulbs left for me I'll take 'em too! I finally am starting to restore the 944 and the gauge lights need some attention (i.e. I can only see the right of the speedo and the left of the fuel/temp gauge at night. I can't see the oil pressure gauge!

Vaughan, I definitely agree the blue lights are too ricey. What really makes it look bad is how it lights up the red parts of the gauges... Also remember that different companies make different shades of white LEDs, so if you look around you might be able to find something slightly more purple or blue. FWIW the most expensive white LEDs are the ones that are closer to pure white.

I wonder how those LEDs would look on early 944 yellow gauges...

Oh shoot, I promised those LED's to Arash like a year ago. I completely forgot. Wipeout, my apologies. I got to do what is right and send them to FR. What a tool I am. Sorry. Wipeout, can I send you something else in the parts dept? PM sent.

Vaughan, I like it. I suppose a interim potentiometer would ascertain what resistance is needed to add the dimmer functionality.

I have red superbrite LED's on mine now.. a touch ricey (Kinda AUDI-ish) but I like it. besides, it's easier on my night vision impaired eyes.

So I'm guessing 8 bulbs in all? Two for the speedometer, Two for the tach, Two for the Fuel and Temp Gauges and One each for Clock and Oil Pressure?

I'd be curious to see what they look like in Red or Green just to be able to see all of the options available.

Chris, do you have a picture of your dash with the Red illumination?

Are you sure you don't have mine? Could have sworn you had a set from me. Anywhoo, I'm producing another round for the late cars to give folks more options.

Correct that, its 14. 8 for all of the little indicator lamps, gas, oil temp. 2 each for the speedo and tach. one each for the clock and oil pressure.

I think some of the indicator lamps take a 194 socket type bulb, not 74. So not quite 14 of the type 74.

8 of the 194, 6 of the 74. Sorry, I meant to say 14 in all.

Someone should make an exact parts list. That site is too confusing there is like 4 versions of each type.
