Purchased it yesterday for 30 bucks (will be in by next Friday, came from Canada ), we'll see how it works out. I will post with pictures as I go.

I found little bit of info on 944time.com, convinced me it was worth trying.

I have my door panels out anyway for replacement, thought it'd be a cool "while your in there" improvement project.

Has anybody done this mod? (And no I was not interested in salvaging a central locking system off a junker 944 and trying to convert all that crap.)

 

Why run to the other side? i would just get in and unlock it from the inside in my 924. You could just get the power lock solenoids and then wire them up to an aftermarket car alarm system. Then you have keyless entry (which is awesome).

The ebay page was down so i couldn't look at the kit.

 

i did it using some generic lock actuator kits made by DEI wired through a spare sunroof switch to the battery...total cost $40

 

i have all the factory actuators from my 87 that i pulled out to convert it to a spec car plus the door handles w/ the plugs etc....if your interested.

 

I did a similar one then added a BULLDOG wireless kit to it. Also added flashing red LED's to it and mounted them right next to the door lock ****, so when the doors are locked the LED flashes red. Just don't leave the windows up with your keys inside the car and disconnect/reconnect the battery. The doors lock on mine when you reconnect the battery.

 

What else would be needed to uses those on an 86 n/a with manual locks? Just curious.

 

Do you have the dash switch? Mine is acting squirrelly...

 

Like I said, I already bought the kit: it included the actuators AND keyless entry key fobs.

 

Never bothered me in my 85 not to have power locks. Not that big a deal in a 2 door. My 89 has the central locking with the little flashing LEDs on the stalks so you have to lock it with a key from the outside.

Looks pretty straight forward , I've done 12v for a long time (20+ yrs) and can tell you that the biggest hurdle sometimes is getting the actuator in a position thats works and doesn't interfere with other mechanicals . That being said , I have a kit for my car I haven't installed yet , but did open the door panels and look around and it looks to real do-able in the 944 door . My girlfriend loves it when I unlock her door and open it for her, kind of a good reason the manual locks never bothered me.

 

UPDATE:

Got the kit in the mail today, all appears well. Right around $35 shipped


Comes with everything it said--- Control module, 4 actuators (so I have a couple spares), 2 key fobs, mounting hardware, and plenty of wire, ready to literally plug and play.


Will continue updating as I get along to the installation.

 

They don't work in my '86, the dash actuator is lit red and occasionally unlocks only the passenger's side.

 

I'm used to the central locking system (key activated) on my old '84. Did 85.5+s have something different? What did the dash switch do?
